Nothing. Many electronic devices have an internal AC transformer which remains on as long as the device is plugged in. The amount of power they draw when the device is turned off is very small. The same is true for devices using a plug in wall adaptor.

The plug will become warm. I leave my ac adapters in all the time and I never have a problem.

It's going to get old. I haven't had to replace an AC adapter yet. It should last a long, long time.
