My dad is 74 and drives cars for a rental car company as a part time job. Sure, some elderly folks don't have the reactions or eyesight to drive safely. Others apparently do. I agree that road tests should probably be required after a certain age. BTW, the word is allowed.

If theyre capable, then yes. If not, then no. people should just have to get re-certified every 2-3 or so years IMO.

that being said, i dont think about 95% of drivers are actually fit to drive. Most of you people are absolute nutcases out there and are completely oblivious to whats around you most of the time.

Not once they reach the point to where they are a danger to others on the road. I think there should be a special service for them, like a taxi company that can sun them around. I've seen too many of the elderly driving up the wrong side of the road. Even in accidents and let go by the police. SCARY

From what I have seen lately between Wyoming and Texas, I think that a better question should be should *young* people be allowed to drive. I prefer the old people driving. At least they know that they aren't bulletproof.

After age 65, they should be tested yearly to check their driving ability.

Also, younger people should have a much more strict initial driving test. Too many people are passing the test who lack skill.

I don't think they should be stopped but after a certain age eg 70yrs the validity of their license should be kept 1yr only, so that every year when they go to get their license renewed they have to give a small test so that the officials get to know if they are still fit to drive or not

Within reason. Is Aust once they get to a certain age it is a requirement that they undertake a driving test every 12months to renew their license. This is to monitor and check their skills, reflexes, eyesight and such.
Provided they all pass and they are in safe and reliable vehicles I don't see a problem.

Maybe limit them to specific times i.e. not after dark or during peak hour traffic.

What do you consider: old. Some OLDER people are
very good drivers and some young people are not. I believe
every driver should be tested regularly. You can not just say:
you are OLD and are not allowed to drive anymore.

I have a ton of respect for elderly people, as I am a care provider for the elderly, but I whole heartily agree with you. I think after a certain age they shouldn't be allowed to drive.
