Same way they always have?

Congress is just using this to make the Prez look really bad and try to ensure a Dem victory in the elections. Nothing more. It's a dirty tactic.

If Congress denies the troops funds after he vetos it, then they pretty much make sure that Republicans will take over after the next elections. Maybe not the president, but the rest of them will lose their jobs.

Remember how much fuss there was at the beginning with Up-Armored HMMWVs and people making makeshift armor? Think about that fiasco x 100.

The funds will come from the General Defense fund. Mean that there will be huge cut backs on services offered on military bases for MWR, social, and general maintenance and upkeep of military installations. Most non essential things like contracted lawn maintenance, building maintenance (painting, and preservation) construction jobs, and a lot of equipment orders will either be delayed or canceled. Job hiring for DOD will either slow down or stop all together as it happened when the democrats were in congress before. Hmmm, seems to be that the Democrats sure know how to hurt the military when they are in majority in congress. History note, Democratic congress voted into law the Base Realignment and Closure Act. How many communities were affected by that because of a democrat controlled congress. How many cities had unemployment explode from the effects of the BRAC Act? Well tighten up your belts, the democrats are going to do it again, cause huge increase in unemployment.

The U.S. military has had to have though about this before. They do train the troops on minimum support at least in the cold war days when troops could be cut off from their supplies for long stretches. The soldiers will get paid, but there will probably be more foot patrols and less heavy equipment.

Probably the easiest trick that would work is if the Chinese leader were to send a message to congress saying that since the U.S. military is suffering a massive degregation from that lack of funds, it looks like this could be the best time to invade (name your territory). Congress would be so scared of a lack of preparedness of the military, they wouldn't cut funds ever.

You can't be that naive............ can you?

The troops make do with what they have.
Same as every time the budget doesn't pass on time and you hear about government funding being delayed. How many times over the years have you heard about that and never given it a thought?

Didn't you realize that until the budget is passed the military here and aboard don't get paid ? Happens every few years no matter which political party is in office.

The troops will keep right on working day and night because that is what they do - protect and serve.
And they will do so without pay if necessary , won't walk off the job or go on strike.

Congress will simply have to get back to work and put forth a bill that the President will sign. It will have to not walk over the power of the Executive Branch by adding time lines to the war and it will have to have all the pork spending removed.

It isn't that hard but for liberal Democrats it is. They just don't know how to not spend way more than what it takes to get a job done and they have no clue about how to defend our nation, run foreign policy or have an understanding of the Constitution.

They are taking 880 million from the Air Force personnell fund!! I read the article yesterday. IF they cant make a decision by the end of the summer the air force is at risk of not getting paid! Here is the article(military.com):

"Air Force Might Cut Pay for Surge
Week of April 30, 2007

The Air Force's top officer said that if nearly $1 billion in personnel funds taken from the service to pay for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan isn't restored by the end of the summer, Airmen and civilian employees might not get their pay. Due to a congressional delay in approving a wartime supplemental funding bill this year, the Pentagon pulled about $880 million from the Air Force's personnel accounts to make up for a shortfall it warned lawmakers would come in mid-April.

I wrote to my representatives because this is crazy to me! They are punishing the men and women fighting their battle for them.

Come hell or high water - the beautiful and noble service women and service men of my country will be taken care of. Regardless of what congress says. Madame Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority leader Reid can kiss my butt. These losers would soon as see America crumble and bow before North Korea as long as they get voted in.

They won't get that money they'll get other money. They are releasing emergency funding as well. Also the military has lots of money all over the place, like in secrete projects they can pull from too. Maybe if big oil and our president GWB donate / share all the oil profits their making off this war that would be helpful too.

Maybe they will repeal that 17 billion dollar tax break to Exxon Mobil. Last I checked they were making good money without the government handouts.
