Ego. The irrational desire to be independent rather than admit that we are all interdependent .Foolish pride.

Very good question. It is true that we are all one at the deepest level of being. Sometimes a person can feel it, but most of the time for most people they do not. The things that separate us from knowing this truth is the same things that separate us from experiencing God.
What is the answer? Perhaps meditation, done correctly. If you could ever get everyone on earth to meditate as practiced in their own religion, or non-religion, and in such as way that they connected with the deepest part of them self and with Ultimate Reality, it would change the world. We can only start with our self and hope that others will join.
Peace.

As in which way is the way 'home' ?
I thought that we had to find a way too, for a long time. Then finally the 'Truth' dawned on me with a blinding flash of apocalyptic supa-nova light !
We don't have to go anywhere, we never left. We took on the veil of Maya in order to forget who we really are, and go forth and multiply the experience of the 'One'. Once we have taken that as far as we need to we start to remember who we are and wake up out of the dream, the dream in which we are all the dreamers.
No set of principles, no rules, no initiation, no twenty years meditating in a cave, just wake up and say "That's done with, now you lot, what have you been up to ?"
I have to admit that I am cheating a bit because I have already done that stage, and can assert that it works. I feel each and every one of you out there, and I love you all, unconditionally, which means that I need nothing back, no expectations.
Thanks for a great question. :-)))

We are all one and different. Simultaneous oneness and difference. The oneness is agreeing to serve the Absolute Truth also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. He is also one but has many Name Forms and Qualities. We are His separated parts and parcels. We never become God though. Those who want oneness like that merge with His Brahman effulgence(light energy emanating from His beautiful Spiritual body) which is not made of any material elements. This is not an eternal situation though. After billions of years the soul becomes board and then falls back to earth to get another chance to serve Him. That is our constitutional position. WE all have free will and God won't touch that. That is what the material world is for (for those who choose not to serve) those of us who are choosing to serve and at the end of life have no more material desires then return to the eternal blissful spiritual world and enjoy in serving Him in loving exchanges. There is no more repeated birth death old age or disease there. Did I mention though we are his separated parts He always remains complete with or without us. For info go to harekrishnatemple.co Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta PRabhupada- The maha mantra is the quickest to complete self realization.

I don't think we are all one, but I'd also like to understand what other people think is "keeping us apart". I don't think we'd ever all agree or share the same principles absolutely entirely - and if we ever did, I don't think that would somehow connect us.
I also don't think we humans have the (unconscious) power to make us all become one (if that was the goal). I think only God has that kind of power.

The way we think needs to evolve before all of mankind will see the oneness.

What's keeping us apart ? Personally created ' shadows ' that cause the pure light not to be seen shining clearly. Those ' shadows ' are ego, fear, doubt, heart hurt . . .
The oneness is already there with all...it's simply not seen clearly by all.
Some do see that clarity and that we are in fact one. The Light of oneness of the One is brilliant.

I believed all these boils down to one thing and that is authority. If all Christians were to submit themself to the authority of the one true church then the oneness will be achieved.

Because we're all different and it's natural to want to "stand out" somehow even if it's in a small or potentially dangerous way.

Our species is not capable of that state. It would destroy our minds and bodies. Hopefully our species is evolving towards that goal.
