I think its fine and a great opportunity. BUT.....
You need to keep in mind, that when you join the Army, you are no longer a female. You are a soldier. You will be working side by side with many, many men and you will be outnumbered. You will have to be twice as strong, smart and able just to be though of half as much.
I have seen so so many girls go in to the service and screw up their lives completely because they don't realize, its not like a civilian job. Your attempts at romance or a love life is better left out of the Army. You cannot be the stereotypical female and survive with your sanity.
You are going to be working side by side with young men, who have just left their mommy's side and think they own the world. If you are not careful you will be and can be hurt mentally and emotionally. Just keep in mind, women in the military can still be a touch subject and you need to be prepared for adversion.
So to answer you, I think IF you are Mentally strong, then it is a wonderful opportunity.

Go for it. Women account for 23% of the Army reserves. Women have been serving along side or in the Army since the 1700s, they were allowed on active duty in 1976 so it is not unusual to see a woman serving. I served 21 years in the Air Force,16 of those years with a family.
I have to edit this because of some of the answers. EVERYONE has to be mentally strong to be in the military. You will be expected to do the same things as men in your field. But the demands are not unreasonable. Don't expect to not have to do a job just because you are a girl. I've worked in shops where I was the only woman. I have been the boss of a shop with all men. I have been in joint operations where I served with Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. Do your job and they will respect you. Some may not like you on the inside but only idiots show it on the outside. That's with any job military or civilian.

Yes! Absolutley can girls join the Army. My sister has been in for 14 years. All you need to do is contact a local recruiter and they will be more than happy to discuss your options. They should be able to tell you if there are any JrRotc programs in your area. JrRotc is for people like yourself who are too young to join the Armed Forces and there are programs and activites that you do throuhout highschool that can earn youpoints toward promotions ect. once you graduate High School and join as an active member. Hope this is helpful to you, like I said just look in your local phone book for an Armed Sevices Recrutiment Center and they will be very happy to assist you.

Just so you know, it is well known that the AF has the best medical/nurse corps in the military.
But if riding in helicopters is your thing, go ahead with the army. Good luck!

If that's what you want to do, don't let gender be the reason to stop your dream and what you want to do. Of course there are things that as females you can not do, however, it won't effect your job and what not base on the fact that you are a female.
If it's what you want to go, go for it!
