I was thinking about writing on the trend of young people cutting themselves (commiting self injury). Is this too depressing?

I see your point and it's not a bad one, but make sure you distinguish between the trend of cutting and those who do it because it's the only way they feel they can deal with their emotional pain. It's not a trend, it's a coping mechanism. There are individuals who do it because it's "cool" or "in" or whatever, but for the most part it's just the best way some people can deal with emotional pain. People have been participating in self-injury well before it became part of the teenage culture in the way it is now, and many people who cut have nothing to do with that culture. I feel like I'm not being very clear, but I hope you get my point.

I really don't think you should consider cutting as a 'trend'. People have been self mutalating themselves for as far as humans were aware of emotions. Its not that its too depressing as much as it really doesnt convey a trend.
Maybe you should think more along the lines of technology and certain fashions or something like that. A trend is something that comes and goes and cutting has been around and is not going anywhere soon.

Speaking of depressing, the trend in the USA seems to be toward an epidemic of depression and the concurrent phenomena of self injury and self destruction in our young people. If you want a topic on something that needs to be drawn to our attention this is it. If you have any ideas as to the cause and possible solutions they are needed too.

Good health, peace and love!

That's one thing that is wrong with society, is that it doesn't acknowledge mental illness. Society is beginning to be educated. I believe that people should be educated on "cutters." It is reality and it can lead to worse things happening. It is important for people to understand how cutting affects the cutter. It is important for cutters to get help.
