Yes there are things you can do! The progress will be slow, but keep your hope up, because every little change will help you feel better.
The first change to make is to add some fruits and vegetables to your diet. Fresh is nice (and cheap, at farmer's market's in the summer) but canned will do. (If you use canned fruit, rinse off the syrup first). Take it nice and easy, this is a nice change to begin with because most people enjoy fruit. If you feel like splurging, get a little container of low-fat vanilla yogurt and add some to the fruit, and sprinkle any crunchy cereal on top. Adding fruit and vegetables will help you and be good for your daughter as she adds grown-up foods as well.

After you have added some fruits and veggies, next try adding some whole grains. One food change at a time is fine - if you love white rice, eat it, but use whole wheat bread. Put some brown rice in soup instead of white. Eat oatmeal for a snack. Give yourself time to get used to the change - eat it five times before you decide you don't like it. Most food preferences are habits, we like what we're used to.

Third, when you're eating more fruits and vegetables and whole grains, add tiny bits of movement. Take a ten-minute walk with your daughter. That's a small, easy thing to do, right? Or put on some fun music and have a ten-minute dance party with your little girl! Take her swimming in the summer, if you can get to a pool or lake. Bike rides are great too, your daughter can be in a bike seat until she rides on her own. Do whatever feels really fun, just for 10 minutes. Slowly work up to doing your ten-minute fun breaks 3 times a day.
While you are doing these three things, give yourself lots of encouragement and pats on the back. The idea is just to make small changes that feel good, without putting pressure on yourself. Pay attention to what makes you feel good, and pause to really savor that feeling!
By the time you have done these things, you'll have plenty of good ideas of your own.
I invite you to email me if you want to talk more about it!

I'm afraid there is no magic pill that will make you lose weight. For a person to lose weight...there is always going to be hard work involved. Diet and exercise is not the answer you want to hear...I KNOW that. But it is the most logical and realistic answer to be given. I am 21 years old, 6'5" tall, and less than 2 months ago I was 400 lbs. I am now down to 350 lbs. I swear by the Atkins way of life...low carbohydrate "diet". People have their gripes with it and call it unhealthy. But my cholesteol has infact dropped well into the safe zone from where it was before the diet...and all in about 2 months time. I did not exercise/workout for the first two weeks of the program...but then I slowly started doing it. It feels good and is even better when you can SEE the results in the mirror and not just on the scale. I mainly weight train...but do cardio 45 minutes twice a week. It is working out well for me and I recommend giving it a try. I do NOT ever go hungry on this diet...I eat steak, pork chops, sausage, eggs, cheeses, salads, chicken, fish, vegetables...and you will learn to just love water. I have not drank any liquid other than water since I started it(that is not a requirement of the diet...but something I choose to do)...drinking a lot of water will make you noticably feel better...it cleans your entire system out...my skin complexion has cleared up big time...and I just feel great.

It has had no adverse effects on my health.
Give it a shot...and good luck.

P.S.
I do not count any calories and fat on this diet...ONLY carbohydrates. I eat until I am satisfied. You will lose weight doing this...I guarantee it. Read up on it...it is very interesting how it works... "ketosis"(the process in which your body burns body fat for energy) is an interesting concept. The idea is...normally you eat a lot of sugars(carbs). Your body will always use these first for energy. So if you eat a lot of carbs every day, your body will not need to use any of its backup energy source(stored body fat). If you cut out the carbs...or severely limit them like you would on this diet...your body has no choice but to go into a phase known as Ketosis. It is when you don't take in enough carbohydrates to maintain your energy levels...so you body kinda goes into "emergency" mode and starts to use your stored body fat for energy...thus resulting in fat/weight loss. READ ABOUT IT!
Good luck again! :)

It really depends on your body. I have take so many weight loss pills, some of them have made my chest tighten up, and I had to stop taking them immediatly. I have two kids, and at my worst, weighed 230 lbs. I just decided one day, that enough was enough, and started to cut my portions in half, drink only water, or V8 juices. I really watched what I ate, tried to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, and I excersized. If my husband wasn't home, I had videos I would work out to. You just have to make a choice and stick with it, once you do it, you will feel amazing! I felt so great about myself once I lost just 5 pounds. Good Luck!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

no pills !!!

call your county health service or a womans health group and see if they can help with some tests for you . The tests are for any hormone problems that might be behind the weight gain .

you need to reduce the amount you eat so your body is burning fat rather than storing fat. That can be hard initially because your metabolism may be quite low.

You got a lot of good advice and I would like to add if your baby is 10 months old it is a great time to go for walks with a carriage. Start slow push the carriage it will help your back to push something. And walk everyday. Start slow and walk longer each time.
Go to the park and do stuff.
keep positive.
