It seems that everyone on this board is either

a. a self-righteous, holier than thou hardcore Christian OR
b. an arrogant, pseudo-intellectual athiest

Your religious views on the world doesn't affect anyone else's, so why can't we all just get along?

Let me clear some stuff up. I'm all for discussion on this board, I just feel that just gets muddled among all of these ad hominum "belief in god is proof of chronic retardation" or the "your claim falls because you are a bad person who doesn't believe in my strict, intolerant version of a higher power" statements seem to contradict the whole purpose of this board.

I never claimed to be on a "high horse", I was simply asking for what reason causes many of the individuals here to be overly hostile to differing opinions.

Also, I'm sorry to those few members who can't be lumped into those two, admittedly, stereotypical categories.

I suppose alot of misinterpretations.

Anyone that claimed to be a Christian and self-righteous at the same time is in serious error. Christ clearly stated that, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes unto the Father except through Me" (John 14:6-7) Also, "For grace you have been saved by Faith, not by works, lest any man boost" (Ephesians 2:8-9) That is the words of Christ, not mine.

Athiest seem to intellectually box themselves in in statements of reasoned-nonreason. Often self negation is the end product of their endeavours. They are quick with the "big bang" argument to reason away God, but ask them what predated the "big band". There had to be something prior too it. Einstien himself stated that matter is neither created nor destroyed. So if this is true, how do you explain the very existence of matter. Then they fall on origins of "big bang" being the universe shrunk down to a singularity... where, the basic laws of physics begin to break down. The unscientific explaining the scientific (reasoned nonreason). Even the atheist is not excluded from utilizing faith in things unseen and mysterious.

In the end, you are correct. Whether my views change the world or not is absolutely meaningless to me. From my Faith's standpoint, every human must be held accountable to God for their actions. God will judge man according to his actions, not those of others.... He is a fair and just God, is He not? The real question you need to consider is, what type of personal relationship do I have with Christ (for Christ never spoke of bringing us a dead religion or system of thought).

As to us all "just getting along" Christ addressed that also. He told us to not only to "love one another", but to also "love thine enemy as thyself". Love is the remedy that Christ endorsed. Unfortunately, many humans are limited in their ability to take the medicine.

Relax. I'm an atheist, but I do respect your beliefs and the beliefs of everyone here. I always answer in my best non-threatening tone, I make a joke, or I combine the two. You will know the difference when you see the answers. My favorite saying is that there is no right religion, only the religion that is right for you. Even if you are an agnostic, I will still respect you. Now, penguin lovers on the other hand...

Barriers create war...religion itself creates them...In Iraq the war against Americans is referred to as a Holy war...

I don't care if you are Hindu, Muslim, Christian or whatever..people can never just agree to disagree...

If there is a question on any particular religion and you don't practice it, don't answer...the war starts when people start imposing their views on something the don't study or care to even understand.

If you are not planning on openly learning about another culture ...then don't offer an opinion, because it counts for nothing if you have no knowledge of it.

Difference of opinion is fine, but never at the expense of someone else. This is why we find it so hard to get along...extremists aren't just Muslims.

Yeah, seems there is a lot of huge ego's here. But I guess it's easy to have a big ego when they're behind a screen. *wink*

Religious views can affect the world. But just believing in a God or Goddess or both *shrug* Many or None or One... it doesn't affect another person unless they allow it to. And obviously a lot of people allow it to in here. So, I'd have to answer no to your last question... not many are going to be willing to get along.

WOW, Smoke is coming out off my ears right now.Man ,when you said serious, you meant it. If that is possible then I think we should lock them up as they pose a serious danger to society. For example, many of the worlds killers like hitler, who was just a very skinny, kind of weak kid growing up,found that he could control people, then his inferiority melted away and he became superior. The VT murderer,he was also that way until he had a gun in his hand. Lock em all up and throw away the key.

I'm a Christian and I know I'm not holier-than-thou...but as for the self righteous thing...well, what can I say...just kidding. Don't judge everyone by the few that are in here. We're not all nuts.

I agree. I also think that people who truly understand this are likely to be spiritually inclined. I dont think God teaches any where to fight, hate and kill over what they perceive to be correct and moral or anything else for that matter. Those who do just use their so-called beliefs to further their agenda, not Gods.

Some of us fit in neither category. And why do you have the right to arbitrarily separate all posters into your categories? How many of my posts have you reac? Where do you think I fit? And are you not guilty of the very same arrogance of which you accuse others?
