You should trim your hair at least 1/4 of an inch every 6 weeks or so. This is not a drastic "cut" and will keep your hair healthy and prevent split ends from occuring. Conditioners that promise to repair split ends do nothing of the sort. They are mearly bandaids that lay the cuticle of the hair down to where the split ends are less noticible. If you are set against at least trimming your hair, the split ends will worsen and eventually split up to your scalp causeing the hair to not grow as fast as it would normally and also give the effect of thinning around the bottom of your hair line. Hope this helps.

You can restore your hair's health with a good treatment, but you need to cut those ends so healthy hair growth can really occur. But, that doesn't mean you have to cut all your hair off and get a major chop.
Split ends, which are technically referred to as Trichoptlosis happen when your hair's protective cuticle has been stripped away from the ends of your hair fibers. When this occurs, your hair is more likely to become extremely dry or brittle, especially if it is exposed to chemicals such as relaxers, hair coloring, sulfates etc.
To prevent future splits, I would suggest that you try this home remedy. Put 2 tablespoons of a mashed avocado or mayonnaise on your hair. Mix either one you use with and 1 egg. Then wrap your head with a warm towel. Let it remain on your hair for at least an hour.
Also, I would recommend that you halt any coloring for a while and apply as little heat and chemicals to your hair as possible. Stay away from unnatural hair care products, especially those containing alcohol. Lastly, I suggest that you order GodHead’s Emergency Repair Split End Conditioner to rejuvenate your damaged hair. No, you cannot repair those ends, but good hair care can prevent future ones. This product is made to treat damaged, dry, dull, and lifeless hair. It works particularly well on splitting hair too because it contains moisturizing Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, Vitamin E, and Jojoba, which moisturize and work on split ends and damaged hair. You can get find it at www.discoverb4a.com.

Okay. First don't use Vaseline because it has petroleum in it which will dry your hair out and give your more split ends. It sounds like your hair is really dry. Go to curls.biz they have a whole line of things that can help moisturize your hair way better than things over the counter. Your hair should stop breaking if you keep it moisturized.

im sorry!
im having that same problem
pantine pro v has some really good shampoo for that
its the restoratives line
im using time renewal shampoo, and breakage defence conditioner
they are working for me, its making my hair waay stronger, so no breakage points
and that means no split ends :]
ive also heard of using raw eggs before you shampoo
i tried it, but it was icky :p
also, when your hair is wet, DONT use a brush!
use a wide toothed comb, it doesnt break your hair
ive straightened my hair almost every day for 2 years, for the last few weeks ive just been letting it dry naturally, and putting gel in it so itll stay wavy
i hate the way it looks, but i can tell that my hair is healing :]
good luck!
oh, and BTW down there
ive had many people from several different salons telling me to use patene
im no expert, but its working for me
:p

Other than getting your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks, you can put a very small amount of vaseline or olive oil on the ends of your hair only. This will moisturize your hair, and you'll have less spli ends between hairtrims.

You should get your hair trimmed regularly by your stylist. In the end your hair kind of grows faster and it's healthier. Also try a shampoo that repairs damaged hair. Ask your stylist what would be best for you.

you should leave the bottom a little curly when u straiten ur hair, thats what I do and i hardly get any split ends. U can also try to leave your hair curly most of the time, & straiten ur hair only on a special occasion.

get a shampoo especially for split ends. It might take some time to repair but they will eventually start going down.

Split ends can't be repaired. But they can be smoothed with a heavy conditioner or hair serum. I rec. Mane and Taill conditior and frizz-ease.
