Alright. I have been in colorguard for 4 years and next year will be my 5th. This is also my third highschool and third marching band. I came into this school and realized they didnt want to learn. I dont show off and i dont pretend that i dont know what im doing. But there is a considerable ammount of jealousy going on, for pete sake i have my captain talking about me every chance she gets. Next year will be my senior year... After crying after practicly every football game because of how i was treated i dont know if i can go back. But i dont think i can let it go. To give you some idea. I went from being in a guard that went to state, to a guard that cant do dropspins together. There is no leadership from my current captain who is my age. So my question is. Should i do this next year and be miserable or not. There is also a small option of a independent winterguard but i havent checked. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

i think you should probably check out some drum corps... from your info, you should probably be able to try out for some really good corps. since drum corps season is in the summer, most corps are done with auditions, but if you ask around, you might be able to find some corps that are still accepting members.

if you can't have happy memories of doing colorguard, i don't think it would be wise to go back. it's a timeconsuming activity, and it wouldn't be worth it unless you can derive joy from it. if you can be happy spinning no matter what people say, then go for it.

if you're a good dancer, you might consider joining the dance team. it's completely different from guard, but the performing aspect is similar. i used to be on the dance team, but during my junior year, it didn't work out for me, so i switched to winterguard, and i am so glad.

just spend some time to think things out. you might even be able to talk to your coach about it. think about what you would want to remember 10 years from now, and then decide. you still have some time :) best wishes!

What about going to your coach? It doesn't sound like this person has done a good job of making sure you guys bond as a team. Girls will always talk behind each others back, but you also need to consider that maybe because you can do something better that the other girls, doesn't mean you should. The strongest and the weakest need to come together in the middle to blend, you know?

As for next year, if this activity is something you love then stick with it, but definitely check into the independent team. Check them out at competitions this season if there's still time. Otherwise, take next year off and enjoy the extra time you'll have or take some more challenging courses and focus on college prep! You can also use the time to volunteer more... maybe teach dance to underprivileged kids?

I think you should try out being in drum corps. If the Guard captain you have now isn't really taking charge & doing there job, you should tell them what's up. & if they just blow you off, then you take charge. If you want a good guard, & no ones willing to take a stand for it, you should.
