Fishing in Pensacola will be red hot for the next several months. Redfish and trout are your best bet inshore, unles you have heavy tackle pompano and spanish mackerel will be the most fun for you from the beach or pier. The Pensicola Beach Gulf Pier will be the best place for you to get a line wet on the beach. Check with Gulf Breeze Bait & Tackle to learn where to go inshore. Also, check out my web site at http:flafin.blogspot.com to see the latest fishing reports from Pensacola and all over Florida. Here are some links to get you started.

I dont know much about that area , I have heard the off shore bite was good on cobia and other stuff , There was a 1063 pound Mako shark caught near there off Destin beach. It should be the best time of year for that area as far as weather and water temps go.
I would take some good surf type spinning tackle and atleast 20 pound trilene big game line , You can use a steel or heavier leader depending on what your fishing for.
I recommend trying to fish just off shore I think thats where you will have the most sucess now.
The specks and reds should be biting inshore now real good in that area as well, I just dont know locations to tell you .
here is a link to a recent report and you might google soem more report sites http://www.floridasportsman.com/regions/ph/fishing_reports/
EDIT: never been to FL hun ... watch out for the female land dwelling sharks , They can be found patrolling the beach looking for male tourists to prey on... lol

Specs are supposed to be real fun to catch, but you already know me and my freshwater luck.
Never too late for reds.... err.... I dunno.... here on the North end of the IRL, we've got year round reds....
I know!
Your rod and reel, a BUNCH of line, some hooks, swivels, weights, lures....
I've got a firm grasp on the obvious, you know......
Take my never failing advice, Exert, walk into the bait store, go up to the counter, look the dude in the eye and say "What's eating what where?" Or you can just call somewhere and get the fishing forecast, I suppose.....
Edited....
Or you can just wait for Brandon to post a link to a fishing report, that's even easier. ;-)
As for finding a half day charter, you can, just start looking now, because they're starting to book up over here. Don't expect cheap, of course, but I'm sure you know that, not sure what going rate is around here (too much for me to afford right now, that's for sure.) but I know most of the charter captains over here offer full or half days.
Here, try this.... http://city.ask.com/city?what=fishing+charters&where=Pensacola%2C+FL&mode=biz#1
Edited....
lol @ Brandon, there's another name for those, but it also starts with "S".
Never been to Florida.... good! Go back home! We don't want you out of staters here!! Ah, I suppose you can visit... at least until I get my "Take a test before you can move to Florida" law passed... I don't think it'll make it.... It would require all potential new residents to live for 2 months with no air conditioning in the middle of summer, and take a simple test on native wildlife and landscaping techniques.... I don't think anyone would go for it..... I'm sure you'll have fun, look out for alligators.

Sounds as though you have already gotten the best info. Only fished there once as a guest on someone Else's boat used his stuff, which was junk, but hey he busted the one rod I had brought with me. Specks are always fun and Reds can be also. Basically hit the tackle shop and find out whats happening where and how.
