it doesn't show support for the troops,it shows disrespect. There is no logical reason to claim to be in the service or a vet on yahoo, there is no way it can be proven. If you support the troops, don't dishonor their service by lying.

I especially like the people who lie about being active duty in Iraq. The way they go on and on about the good intentions of establishing Democracy.
Another group of liars that I enjoy are the ones that say they were standing across the street from the WTC buildings when they collapsed and that no explosives were used.

When I was single the most popular line that guys would use on me was "I use to be a Navy Seal".
I on the other hand who didn't have time for idiots would tell them to get lost unless they wanted their nose broken.
I don't know why they lie about being in the Military. It's so easy to tell if their lying too.Especially if the guy has the I.Q of a gnat it's obvious their full of it.
But sometimes I would bullsh** them back and tell them my Billy Joe Bob story just to see how dumb they really were.
Which goes like this ( I would use a red neck accent to tell it)
Yea,my old mans doen hard time in the slammer right now fer first degree murder. But he's goen to parole hiself as soon as I can get him a shovel and an axe.
But in the meantime my ma's taken care of all of my kids
Lets see, there's Billy Joe Bob junior then Mary Sue then Billy Joe Bob Junior oh I accidently forgot about the first one,you know because of the chemical imbalance I sometimes forget to take my medication. How many kids do you have you ask?Oh at last count it was 13 but I'm currently lookin for a new man to help me with all of them because me an Billy Joe are gonna bust out of here and move to Mexico. And ma's gonna send me the loot she gets from the welfare so me an Billy Joe and can be together forever.
By this time all except for one have been long gone. The only guy who stayed ended up laughing his butt off and then said "You don't look like you've ever had kids to begin with let alone 13"He said that was the funniest story he's ever heard in his entire life.
So I dated him.
Lucky for him he hadn't told me he used to be a Navy Seal.

Since you state that there is no way to verify a person's claim that they eiter are of have been in the military, why do you think they are lying?
I spent 20 years in the U.S. navy as a Combat Data Systems technician. Joined in 1975 and transfered to the fleet reserve in 1995. Had several duty stations both at sea and ashore. Spent considerable time in foriegn countries such as Panama, Philippines, Indonesia.
Want more details just for the fun of it? Want to know where the smoking area on a DDG is?
Don't assume!

I am a democrat and a patriot. The men and women of the United States military are my heroes. If my daughter ever wants to go into the service, she has our blessing despite any fears.
I was brave enough to turn in my card when asked to (the first in my high school amidst taunts and insults).
I was NOT brave enough to volunteer.
I am not afraid of the truth, or my lack of courage in this case.
Thank you for your post.
Officially, I cannot claim it now to support my desire to support President Bush in our efforts in the Middle East. IF I need to lie to support my argument, then in my heart, I know my cause is unjust, regardless of why I "think" it's necessary or important.

Most people lie about being in the service just for bragging rights. I can separate the liars from the soldiers because I served my country very proudly. I just ask "What was your M.O.S.?". And if they look at me with a blank stare I know right away that their a liar. A solider would answer right away.

You get types like "Erudite" who claim service, washouts like "Beaujock", and a galaxy of hangers-on who like to claim military service because they feel it lends them credibilty somehow (mask their antiwar activism as "patriotism" no matter how misguided or uninformed, for instance) ... and it seems to be a very big problem in America.
For all the people who call us "Fascists" and "Baby Killers", there are a surprising number of people who like to dress in cammies, wear medals, or pretend they were "there". Screw them.
EDIT: Stony, read your profile blurb. Agree with you 99%. Hang in there and don't let VA screw you over.

10 years ago if I told anyone I was ex military I received a "SO" from them.( You know...The shrug of the shoulder ) Now When I'm in a nice club and the war ( Iraq) comes up I discover all kinds of ex military men who have seen a lot of action. I, for one, was a dog handler in the military and most of the time I fought boredom and mosquitoes and only "ONCE" and I mean "ONCE" in a while I had a so called terrorist try and destroy an aircraft or two.( We didn't call them terrorist back in 1969 ) Then I would catch a man ( Or men ) coming over the fence to steal from the barracks or whatever. But to listen to these John Wayne types makes me feel I missed out on the type of action that would make people feel spell bound to hear of my actions in and out of the war. But!! All I have to do is ask them this....What was your AFSC "OR" MOS...?? Then I just smile and shake my head.
