An apple is a dicot! It is in the Rose family of dicot plants (Rosaceae). Examples of a monocot are corn, wheat, rice, irises, lilies, and palm trees.

Apples are definitely dicots. Though it's hard to picture taking apart an apple seed into the two cotyledons, it isn't hard to picture an apple tree leaf with its branching veins -- a dicot feature. See an apple leaf here:

I'm no biology major but this is what I copied and pasted:
Dicot traits--
two cotyledons in their seeds
netted venation in their leaves
petals and sepals in 4s, 5s, or some multiple thereof
vascular bundles in the stem arranged in a radial pattern like spokes of a wheel.

Here is a selection of dicots:
Rosaceae-- roses, APPLES, peaches, strawberries, almonds

Another source stated this:
DICOTYLEDONS, DICOTS:

One of the two major types of flowering plants, or angiosperms. The dicotyledons are so named because sprouting seeds have two primary leaves or cotyledons. Other common features of the dicots are leaves with branching or net veining and flowers with four or five tepals or multiples of these.

Examples of dicotyledons would be roses, most fruit trees such as APPLES, pears, cherries and peaches. (5 petals)
