It's against the Old Testament alongside Homosexuality, ham, shellfish, cheese burgers, and having sex with women on their periods. But do most modern Christians follow all of these rules? Some choose to express their faith through tattoo. When they tell you that your body is a temple, tell them that the tattoo is the stained glass window. I have a few myself, both expressions of my faith -- Pan on one arm, and Persephone on the other. I say get the tattoo, but think long and hard on what you want and where. My advice is put it someplace that you can see, but also that you can cover for work. Meditate on it, pray about it if that is your choice, but choose something special and meaningful for you. Tattoo is a beautiful art form, and can be a transcendent experience. Enjoy.

The Bible teaches that people are made in the image of god. To desecrate your body or deliberately mutilate it, is to diminish a holy thing. So be careful. Also consider that most people with tatoos look like idiots.

No self respecting Jew would have had tattoos.
It was a fundamental violation of the Levitical commands not to deface and damage your body. Piercings and tattoos were Pagan Symbols of fertility and virility. (Most pagan stuff was about sex).
Further, the Apostles didn't believe in defiling the temple of the Holy Spirit (that's your body if you're a believer). With one exception: surrendering your body to be a martyr. But, that was only when you were forced to decide whether to worship Caesar or worship Christ.
You should ask yourself if you are following Christ, or the spirit of this age.

PS, if you want to draw attention to yourself, just get really serious about following Jesus (the way he and his Apostles taught). People will notice you.

Back in the O.T. ,the Hebrews prohibited it because tatoos were usually pagan religious symbols.Even today (if you are Jewish) if you have a tatoo, you can't be buried in a Jewish graveyard. But I don't think that applies to N.T. believers.

Leviticus 19:28 and you must notmake cuts in your flesh for a deceased soul and you must not put tatoo markings upon yourselves.
That is one of the places I can remember but they were not to do anything permanent to disfigure their bodies or change its appearance. We are God's temple and it is defaming it.

I am not for getting tattoos, and the bible says that we need to take care of our bodies because they are a temple for the holy spirit. However, I do know some wonderful Christians who have tattoos.

I just asked this question this morning...My son just got one...I was really upset about it at first, but you know what, its really nice...
Yes, the Bible is against it, but if you of age and you take responsibility for it...well then go for it...but don't forget, you will have it always, and don't do it on a whim..
Good luck....

There is a Levitical Law which prohibits marks on the body.
Talk to your pastor about it. A lot will depend upon how legalistic your church is.
