ANY potential employer will need to not only see your I.D., but they will most likely make a photocopy of it to keep on file. You need to provide some prove that you can legally be employed, and they retain a copy to protect themselves and show that they performed their due diligence in establishing this.
Incidentally - nobody likes their drivers license/ID picture; and your employer won't care. If it portrays you in an extremely unprofessional light (you used to be goth, had a mohawk, etc) it might be worth it to "lose" it and go get a replacement one made w/ a new picture; probably won't cost more than $15-20.

The legal age to buy alcohol in Ireland is 18 but generally most bars expect ID to be shown if the patron looks under 21. Nowadays practically everywhere checks ID, I always get asked and I definitely do not believe I look under 21.

Yes, the hiring manager/owner will need to see your PHOTO id and for a bar or casino they will make a copy for their records, in fact, most employers will make a copy. I drive long haul truck and whenever I pull a liquor, tobacco or hazmat load the shipper will make a copy of both my license and medical card.

It is an ID photo, the way you look when you present yourself for the interview will matter more than the pic on an ID card. Besides, it is like a law, ALL ID card pix are awful!

I've never had anyone question mine. Even though I have short hair in my ID and long hair now. They'll just make a copy for their records to prove they've seen it.

I've been asked for my license by the manager/HR at every job I've had.

If you have both of your eyes open in your ID photo, consider yourself lucky. I had my eyes closed shut- I looked STONED- yet the DMV wouldn't let me do a retake.

Actually, your employer is supposed to make a photocopy of your birth certificate or work visa. That's immigration law, currently.
