Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.
In other words, sin is anything that hurts your relationship with God.
Sin is a personal act.
Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:
- by participating directly and voluntarily in them;
- by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;
- by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;
- by protecting evil-doers.
With love in Christ.

Sin is the English word for the Greek word Harmatia
Harmatia is a term used when you shoot an arrow at a target and the arrow falls short of reaching the target.
For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans)
That is the primary word for sin but there are others also some of the other words deal with direct rebellion toward God or Idolatry. I suggest if you really want to know more than you should look up a study in Harmartiology or the study of sin.

The Ten Commandments would be a start, there is alot of ways to sin, if you think something isn't right, it most likely is a sin, if you are hurting anyone, and sometimes even your self, it is a sin, Jesus never sinned, that is the only way that The Lord could take on all ours, because He was clean, He was our lamb. We should try to be like Jesus, and follow The Lords example, as much as we can.

I'm having a difficult time trying to understand how thoughts can be sinful. The way that I see this is a person can have a passing thought about anything but,as long as they don't follow through with that thought then how can that be a sin?As humans we have the ability to be rational meaning that we can think twice about certain issues and not follow through with actions.

Well technically "sin" is anything and everything bad or not done in some way, no matter the reason. But I think sin is junk and needs to be looked at. Their are always reasons behind something, so you should look at everything before you consider that a crime/sin. You killed somebody, but the person you killed 500 hundred others and you are trying to get rid of some maniac, sin? You steal...in order to feed your family and you gave half of it away to your starving nieghbors, sin? There are some true sins, like doing something evil for no good reason. Killing someone in the name of God is a sin, what's the reason, god told you to? Attacking a bully, sin? When you are trying to defend your younger siblings? Fools. You have to look at everything before you decide if it is a sin or not. Your ignorance is a greater sin, since it lead to worst outcomes than need be. Is this a sin for bashing old thinkings? *laughs*

Sin is a term used mainly in a religious context to describe an act that violates a moral rule, or the state of having committed such a violation. Sin typically involves deliberately or purposefully harming some living organism (including human as well as other living animals or organisms) without a proper reason.
In monotheistic religions, the code of conduct is determined by God. Colloquially, any thought, word, or act considered immoral, shameful, harmful, or alienative might be termed "sinful".
Common ideas surrounding sin in various religions include:
Punishment for sins, from other people, from God either in life or in afterlife, or from the Universe in general.
The question of whether or not an act must be intentional to be sinful.
The idea that one's conscience should produce guilt for a knowing sin.
A scheme for determining the seriousness of the sin.
Repentance from (expressing regret for and determining not to commit) sin, and atonement (repayment) for past deeds.
The possibility of forgiveness of sins, often through communication with a deity or intermediary; in Christianity often referred to as salvation.
Crime and justice are related secular concepts.

Sin simply put is disobeying God. There are two types of sins: Sins of commission and sins of omission. Sins of commission are when we deliberately disobey God, for example God says not to covet and we covet the neighbors new car. Sins of omission are a little more difficult; they are the sins we commit by not giving help when we could have, such as not stopping to pick up the papers of the girl we ran into.
God wants us to obey His laws not only in the letter but also the spirit of the law, breaking either is sin. Praise God that He is merciful and that He covers our sins making them pure and clean.

The first thing that someone should be considering is whether the idea of sin is actually real.
If God is supposed to be perfect how could She have made anything or anyone that wasn't perfect.
Think about it. The idea of sin assumes certain things about God that seem highly unlikely.
First it assumes a God who is too incompetent to organize a simple educational field excursion and figure out a way to get all of the students home safely.
How likely is this that God would not be smart enough to come up with a plan for our salvation that is going to work 100 percent of the time?
It also assumes that God must have created us imperfect if we are sinners.
One might assume that God would be able to create someone perfect each and every time if he chose to. Assuming God is capable of this, then it follows logically that we must be perfect creations if we are actually creations of this perfect God.
Unless of course you are saying that God chose to create us imperfect.
If God created us imperfect then anything that may go wrong is Gods fault, not ours. This seems a bit illogical at best so I think that we need to assume that What God creates would have to be perfect.
If this is the case and Gods creations are perfect, then nothing that we can do could change what God created perfect and make it imperfect unless we think that we are more powerful than God is.
How likely is it that we the creation could be more powerful than the creator. I personally find this idea somewhat amusing, and a bit absurd.
Religion tells us that God is perfect. If this is true then it could hardly be logically for Gods creations to be considered to be anything less than perfect.
If this is the case and we are perfect creations of a perfect God then Nothing that we can ever do could possibly change this perfection that God willed, unless we were so powerful that our choices could override and change the will of God.
How likely is that????
Think about it.

Sin is the sinful nature of all humans. The things we do in the flesh that people refer to as sin, is, in reality, the fruits of the tree which is the sin nature.
That's why Jesus said; By there "fruits" ye shall know them.
How do we know what it sin? There's two ways to look at this.
(1) First: The Apostle Paul says; I had not known sin, but my the law.
(2) Second; The Bible tells us plainly; He that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
So I see sin as that which alienates, and separates, us from God. And the nature of which is in opposition with God.
In Isaiah 59:1-3 we read; Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
But “your” iniquities have separated between you and your God, and “your” sins have hid his face from “you” that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.
Here, we can see, "deep rooted sin" produces a "separation" between God and humanity, and "hides" his face from us!
It is of utmost important to note, that "God" does not "himself" hide his face, it's "sin" that hides his face!
Other words; Sin" sets up a sinful barrier between God and Humanity, and, as is seen in the life of Israel throughout the Old Testament.
The results is that it allows the unrestricted manifestation of Satan and his evil doings.

I'm agnostic and I believe SIN is anything done that hurts another person, physically or mentally or goes against the natural law of mankind. To bad christians also believe almost anything that's fun or feels good is a sin, like sex before marriage
