Mormonism today is a beign (non-violent) religious movement but it wasnt always this way and its history holds some interesting lessons when applied against Islam.
Joseph Smith, like Muhammad, claimed to have a divine visit, one that demanded a new religion and gave a new holy book. The selling point was that this religion was meant for America, and American born religion.
Intial growth in MS eventually brought backlash and the Mormons moved to IL. In IL Mormons were recieved with sympathy based on their problems in MS. Overtime however, Mormons took over and Joseph Smith became Major of the city of Navoo (IL), eventually declaring his candidacy for President of the US.
Mormon cultural dominance created tension which reached critical mass when Mormons destroyed a local newspaper critical of Smith. Americans back then saw supression speech in favor of theocratic rule as the ultimate affront and the ensuing mob killed Smith.

After Smith's death, Brigham Young led the Mormons out of America and into the Salt Lake Valley which was not yet American territory.
Once again the Mormons built up their community until you essentially had a theocratic state, or country, neighboring America.
Eventually the US Government was forced to deal with this Mormon state after Mormons massacred hundreds of Arkansansans after in the infamous "Mountain Meadows Massacre".

The US Government essentially mandated certain doctrines or castrated Mormonism...
Do we still have the strength to do the same to Islam?

I feel bad for laptop j...he's got things so twisted it's sad. You have obvioulsy watched the pbs special since you basically paraphrased the whole segment. I'm not sure what you meant by treating islam like that, i hope you don't mean to persecute and try to exterminate, because it never should have happened to the mormons, and should never happen to anyone else. I would encourage you to continue watching the pbs special tonight. Remember we live in a country with religious freedom, it's why the country was created in the first place. Unfortuantley when those beliefs are not the same as our own we tend to forget that. Let's all just strive to respect everyone. We all deserve at least that. We all don't need to agree, but respect for eachothers differences is essential.

No, Mormons go on missions all over the world they spend two years in a foreign country and learn a second language then come back to the US and join the CIA, they have heavily infiltrated the CIA, the people in South America know this and it is why they keep blowing up Mormon churches down there.
The mob that killed Joseph Smith killed him because he went around to eighteen different families and persuaded the parents of young girls to let him marry them and take them in the other room and consummate the marriage as the beginning of his plan for polygamy, guaranteeing the parents a place in heaven , he did this while his wife Emma was out of town, when his wife returned and he told her about his plan of polygamy she freaked and said no way then Joseph Smith got up in front of everyone and denied polygamy, it was the parents of those eighteen young girls that drug his butt out of Jail and killed him.
Mormons have a huge foothold now, they are the second richest church in the world. They should of been eradicated and so should any religion who practices crap like they do so I suppose this would include Islam.
Notice David L. answer $12 million?
The Mormons murdered a lot of people including their own members who tried to leave, that is what they had the Dananite's or Avenging Angels for, they had their own brand of execution also, slitting the throat ear to ear and disemboweling.
There were other massacres besides the Mountain Meadow Massacre but those are kept fairly quiet, when the Mormon's hit SLC, Utah there were already settlers in the Valley and the Mormon's dressed like indians and massacred them too.

Mormons were never a violent state. I am not suggesting that Islam is. Some radicals are, however. Mountain Meadows was an isolated incedent that is still no fully understood by anyone inside or out of the LDS church. The LDS church also had a militia formed to protect themselves while they were back east, because they faced so much violence. They never attacked anyone there though. It is also not a doctrine of the LDS church to attack unbelievers. Our belief is to invite everyone to hear God's word and feel the truth through the Holy Ghost, not to force them to do so through force.

You must have watched the PBS special, right? Well Mormons didn't kill "hundreds" of people. The US government didn't "castrate" Mormonism either. They have $12 million members worldwide.

that is a foul mission at the same time as our emotions dictate our habit in course of others. purely because you've developed a smooth spot for Muslims we are all to adhere to "your" emotions. at the same time as in actuality first rate habit and honest treatment of "honestly everyone" should be a common all of us attempt to stay as a lot as regardless of our emotions. I applaud your efforts to abstain from ridicule of religion I purely question why it took earlier that you may want to act on integrity, Your double questioning in affirming we are attacking a lifestyle or someone is incorrect yet to attack a faith like Christianity is ideal purely shows how shallow your information is. the religion IS the guy. faith can't exist without human beings
