Spanish is tricky, you see we have a distinction between love and affection. If you love someone as in someone from the opposite sex or same sex (if that is your thing) then is: "Te amo mucho".
If you just like someone of just appreciate someone a lot then is "Te quiero mucho".
In the spanish language is believe you can have affection for someone but not necesarry be in love with the person. Kind like the expression I love ?(enter name here) but I'm not in love with (enter name here), will be translated like this: "Yo quiero a (enter name here) pero no amo a (enter name here)."
"Te amo tanto" is also correct, and romantic.

Either:
"Te amo tanto"
or
"Te quiero tanto"
Spanish speakers from Latin America tend to say the first ("Te amo tanto"), while Spanish speakers from Spain tend to say the second ("Te quiero tanto").
Both are equally correct.
