Most American credit cards are simply not authorized for these kinds of transactions. The government has put a lot of pressure on the credit card companies to make it difficult for you to freely spend your money in a way that you choose to. Nice eh?

The best bet right now is to sign up with epassporte.com and you can easily transfer money to and from any of the major poker sites that still take American players.

You might also consider joining the Poker Players Alliance. This charity is putting pressure on the government to force them to understand that most Americans do not support a ban on online poker.

You can't use ANY credit cards in the US to directly fund poker accounts. I use Western Union or MoneyGram (email your site for instructions). There is ePassporte, where you sign up for an account and fund it w/ an American credit card then you fund your poker account from your ePassporte account, it's like a middle man. BUT, with the Netteller debacle i WOULDN'T do this unless it's for a small amount. Also, don't keep money in your ePassport account for long periods of time when you cash out your poker acct to your ePassporte acct.
Western Union and MoneyGram are the way to go. I play on PokerStars.com, which I also recommend. Good luck!

You can use your american express to play at Betzip. They are the only legal US online poker room since they don't charge rake but instead you pay a $20 subscription fee every month. They are actually based in the US and you are paid by check each week. Here's a review of the site http://www.nicefacepoker.com/

They only offer tourneys but I play there since I know it is legal since it is a US company and the most I can lose every month is only $20. Helps me save my bankroll from tilting!
