Mayan Calender 2012?

Why do we believe in these Mayan people so much? I don't understand...what makes us believe them more than anyone else in the past for future...Is it going to turn out to be just another Y2K like thing? Is there any evidence to this day that something bad is going to happen on December 21-23 2012? Please im kind of scared.

Perhaps because their calender is the most accurate ever made. They predicted several events to a tee.
The calendar simply stops at that point.. there are all kinds of theories as to why.. "the end of the world" is just one of them.
Try studying it a bit and maybe it won't scare you so much.

This planet is assume to pass into the internal photograph voltaic equipment in 2012 and do all kinds of undesirable issues to the Earth. There men had an exceedingly weird and wonderful humorousness. I recommend who might opt to pull a prank like this just to scare human beings 3000+ years when you died? "We" don't; only the death-cult obsessed with the mythological "end times," who are so desperate for any prophesy that they'll turn to a "heathen" one, are. They'd rather see the world die than take responsibility for helping to make the world a better place.

But don't worry. They've been wrong thousands of times before. 9/11 (eremember Falwell and Robertson gloating?). Y2K. The first Gulf WAr. the Great Disappointment. 1666. 1000. And lots and lots of other times.

And they'll get to be wrong all over again in 2007, 2012, and whenever they pick as their next doomsday.

The Mayans have been very accurate on predictions so I've read.

Anyway, according to them, we are currently in a TRANSITION from one epoch to another that started in 1987 and will end in 2012. In December of 2012 we will be in another epoch (the fifth one I think?) where the world will drastically change in some powerful way most likely positive. Something, I think, about humans being born in that year and forward with more intelligence and a stronger 6th sense, etc. Something like that... *shrugs*

people know it because it seems for the most part mayans knew their s***. they knew stuff we are still just confirming today. if you know about astronomy you know about the procession of earths tilt, rotation and orbit. these are called milanchovich cycles cycles and were "discovered" 50 years ago. the mayans knew that. although just because their calender ends in 2012 doesnt mean life is over then, it means maybe we will start a new procession

The Mayan Calender ends. But that's not the end of the world.

If they would have survived, they would have extended it. The calender was based on astronomy; to predict time accurately you need newer and newer star charts. You can only time the future for so long. They would have extended the calendar had they survived.

We believe them because we acknowledge that they had technology at that time that the greeks or chinese or stuuf had. ie. Advanced architecture, a strong understanding of astronomy, etc. Plus, their calendar lays down periods of about 20 years a piece that say there is going to be certain calamities during that period, like a giant flood, World wars, famines, etc. So, it's probably a good idea to go to the library and actually read a book on it so you make your opinion on it?!?
Also, It would probably be a good idea to enjoy your life in the meantime anyway!

Who are the "we" you are referring to? Because I don't believe in any prediction of the end of days. I believe in the 2nd coming of Jesus and only God the Father knows when that will be. So why bother trying to figure it out. No person will know it until we see it happen.
