The Northern Inuit and the Utonagon (very similar by the way) were bred to look like wolves and to be companions. They look more like wolves than any other breed. Next I would say is the Alaskan Malamute.

That is a tough one, there are tonnes of breeds that have similar traits, and apparently the more a dog looks like a wolf, the more it will behave like one. That's not to say your dog will howl more or start hunting though, I heard that in an animal attending course I did. I think that the husky is similar because they have the colour, pointed ears and fur for it, but I don't think they have the shape. The long haired German shepherd probably has the best shape- they are kind of lean, long and tall with the long face (Huskies kind of have shorter noses). Alaskan Malamute are pretty cool, they are like a giant husky, they are too big to look like a wolf, but they are really cool anyway.

Northern breeds probably-huskies and malamutes, elkhounds,Eskimo dogs etc.

Also the GSD and the Belgian Shepherd breeds.

None of these dogs are actually more closely related to a wolf than a Pekingese is though.

I'd go with the alaskan malumut or husky, but they still look a little cuter looking than a wolf in my experience. There was a breeder crossing wolves with a certain breed of dog but don''t think thats legal lol ;-)

Well as far as looks I would say either a husky, shepherd or malamute. But! Did you know a husky is no more closely related to a wolf than lets say; a basset hound!? Only a wolf hybrid would be something that is more related than a domestic dog.

Any dog that has a lot of far north in him especially if he is mixed with German Shepherd. There are many different types of wolves and they have different looks. I think I saw a Mexican Red Wolf or wolf/coyote/dog mix in Laguna Atascosa Wildlife area in southern Texas. It was the most beautiful thing but did not look like the wolves at Yellowstone. It looked like a large reddish coyote but much bigger, smoother coat and a bit different face. Everyone tells me I saw a coyote but I saw it clearly and not too far from me. I saw it again later running down a road and into the brush. I know what I saw. Beautiful. . .

There are lots of dog breeds that are wolf-like in appearance. Just ask people who own sable-colored German Shepherds - they have people asking them if "that is a wolf" all the time.

If you go to this website http://www.shawlein.com/The_Standard/13_Breed_Type/Breed_Types.html and scroll down, there are a number of breeds listed there that are wolflike in appearance, such as the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog and the Sarloos Wolfhond.

Huskies and Malamutes are the closest thing because they have evolved from wolves less slowly than other domesticated breeds because of where they lived and what they were used for. However, because of this they are also harder to train because they have retained their independent mindset from the wolf. Not impossible to train, just more work, in case you are interested in getting one.
