can you plz translate the folowing word for word

Oh, that used to drive me crazy about Mark Twain, too.

"I can't, Master Tom." (In this case, I think "master" is a courtesy term for a young boy -- like "mister" is for a grown man.) "Your (grandmother?) told me I have to fetch some water and I shouldn't play with anyone along the way. She said she thought you'd ask me to paint the fence, but she said ignore you. She said she'd pay attention to your painting."
