Here's an alternate suggestion: use psychology on them.
Only be available during the weekends. If they call during the week, exchange pleasantries for about 30 seconds, then say, "Hey, I gotta go, can you call me back ... say ... Saturday morning?" Or, spend a lot of time online so that they can't call you (if you're the other person left in America besides me who still has dialup).
In summary, act in such a way that conditions them to realize that the best time to call you is during the weekend. Then, they will.

You don't have time for your parents during the week? I'll bet they made time for you every day of the week when you were growing up. If I was your dad, and you told me I could only call you on weekends, I would tell you I am golfing weekends, and then I would go golfing. Shame on anybody who puts their parents on an access schedule. If you have a day you genuinely aren't available for whatever reason, that is fine, we are all entitled, but to put your mom and dad on a strict time allowance like that is downright disrespectful.

NO, if you're busy on the weekdays with work and friends or just need time to unwind after work and don't feel like talking to anyone, that's your right. Sometimes I just let my answering machine get it or I will even turn the ringer off (I tend to get lots of telemarketers). But it's not rude nor disrespectful to tell them it's better for you that they call you on weekends or you will call them on weekends. Cost less? And then you will have more time to talk also.

Not the way to do it.
Sounds as though they call when ever and you are busy. Why not arrange to call them one evening during the week "I'll call you Wed at 7 (or what ever) or on the weekend at a preschedulled time.
You initiate the idea that way you and your parents can arrange to be free of social/school/work/down time or obligations.

No, if your are too busy to talk during the week and that is the best time for you to visit with them then I don't find that to be mean at all.

theyre your parents, you cant blame them if they worry about you...if you want them to call you on weekends, you have to make sure that you communicate with them once in a while.

I tell my parents not to call and then they call anyways and bug the **** out of me. If they actually listen to you, be very thankful. Your parents could be assholes like mine who force you to check in with them and ask you a bunch of dumb questions when you are trying to study or party.

No. They should call you when you are free and ready to talk to them, not anytime they like........afterall you are not jobless or doing nothing, waiting for their calls.
