Yes, it's true! Mormons (the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) don't practice plural marriages any more. However, break-off sects do. Is this news to you or did you know it before?

Okay... So you believe plural marriage would be a direct revelation from god and only given when necessary. A prophet would have the privilege of direct revelation. But one of the most famous prophets every Mormon knows who he is and what he did. Brigham Young. How many wives did he have again? 27? So in my honest opinion... There would be no reason for a single man to ever have that many wives. They could have been easily divided up to other worthy men. Unless that is just another mystery of gods decision making, then you are still right. But honestly it would serve no purpose other than reward to give a man that wanted that many wives the justification of doing so. So in conclusion. Plural marriage is and has been mans decision and would have not and will not come directly from god. If it did then it would have been more evident.

I knew. I also know that your leader states that there is no such thing as a "Fundie" Mormon for the ones that have been in the news that practice plural marriages.

But why did Joseph tell you guys that it was okay in the first place? Was it because plural wives was done in the Middle East?

Joseph said that he had a "divine" revelation that this practice would bring everyone to the highest level in heaven as gods. And you guys believed. Now you have change Joseph's revelation.

I don't get it. Really just trying to understand since this was a made-in-America religion.

The LDS church stopped when they wanted Utah to become a state. Many church leaders where jailed for this. However the break off sects do still use their version of the Book Of Mormon and are sometimes refered to as Mormons by those who don't know any better.

Let us hope that this earth-shattering news goes to the far reaches of the earth and to those raggers of the LDS faith. Some people never get the word, and the word was put forth in October 1890.

Edit: Attention Meg M.

President Woodruff issued the Manifesto that ended plural marriage because by practicing it the LDS Church would then break the laws of the land. We believe in honoring and sustaining our leaders and the laws.

Secondly, President Woodruff had received inspiration from the Lord that the only and best way for the Church to continue was to denounce polygamy. The Lord did not want His Elders imprisoned, His temples destroyed, and the Gospel desecrated by armed forces. There was, and is, much work to be done in the temples of the Lord. Having them destroyed would obviate the very purpose of their existence and hamper the works of salvation and exaltation for mankind.

There are more things you should be worried about with the doctrine than just one issue, why dont you read the BOM I dont mean the 102nd one that has deleted material to fit the doctrine I mean the origional that was penned by JS. And the rest of the origional writings. I think you will be reading for a while if you will take the initiative to do so.

First of all, we believe in following the laws of the land, even if they are unconstitutional.

Second, if God had not excused us from the PRACTICE of plural marriage, the church would have been destroyed, by the government.

So, Joseph Smith didn't lie.

I know it! and I don't know why some people keeps saying that Mormons commit polygamy if it is so obvious that we don't. For example, if you go to a Mormon church or the temple and you see people that you know are Mormon, you won't see any man with more than 1 wife and tons of kids with different woman.

I knew it before. What I don't know is how the Mormons can go against something that was (allegedly) divinely revealed. Was Joseph Smith lying, and if so, what else did he lie about?
