This is done, mostly at research vet colleges, say Cornell or U of Davis.

It is expensive.

Doggie dialysis consists of balanced diet with sensitive levels.... like sodium, potassium, phosphorus, ....

The veterinarian will give you IV fluid to put in your dog either with an indwelling cather (IV needle) secured in the leg or more commonly,
subcutaneously under the neck and shoulders.

I did this for several months twice a day, and studied her diet - however, I am a nurse and that helps a lot. I put her on Purina for kidneys and supplements.

She had good liver and heart functions.

My veterinarian gave her 3 weeks if I had not done this. I thought it was worth it and I only worked 12 hour shifts, 3 days a week, so the other 4 days I could get caught up. My girl was an angel through all of this and had no trouble getting around.

We did this with me making a few small changes and getting bloodwork once a month for about 5 months.

She had a good life until cancer overtook her..... this was discovered the summer before on ultrasound and x-ray and at her age, I elected not to due surgery and put her through hell. On a monthly bloodwork the CBC was way off. In 3 days it was way worse.

I enjoyed her for 2 days, took some photos, shaved a bit of her hair with a spot and some white hair, and the last thing she saw were my eyes looking into hers. She was cremated and placed in the same box with her litter sister.

I cried off and on for a week; but enough is enough. My dogs trust me to do what is right for THEM, not me. The hardest thing to do - is decide when it is time. I ask my vet to help me with this, because I do not give up easy IF my dog is happy and comfortable.

I have to be good - so I can go where my dogs go !

Get on the internet and read. That's the best thing.

Sorry I don't know the answer to this . I train dogs & I'm not a vet. You should be able to ask your own vet this question.

Actually there is at some teaching universities, but VERY high cost and you have to adopt the donor dog too...
