When I was your age I volunteered at the local hospital. It was a very good learning experience. I got office experience and was able to work in the rehab department and with the elderly, which was probably the toughest. I felt so bad for them. It really means something to you when you walk into a person's hospital room and their eyes light up just because they need some company.
I hope you find something you will enjoy. :)
In my first year of college I joined AmeriCorps and UpwardBound. Those were wonderful and AmeriCorps provided some scholarship funds for my education.

There are very many conservation volunteer organisations. This would be a wonderful experience for you, and would certainly impress your college admissions board. Try a search for "conservation volunteers". Good luck.
