Those of us with children (not sure if you have kids) understand that there is a big difference between programming our computers to wake us up in the morning with "good-morning father-I-love-you" and having your little son or daughter jump on your bed at the crack of dawn yelling "Good morning daddy! I love you!"
The Almighty God has a myriad of angels proclaiming "Holy, holy, holy"--but they have seen Him, so it is easy. Think what it means to God, having NOT seen Him, yet lifting your arms and proclaim, "Good morning Lord! I love you!"
John 20:29
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have NOT seen and yet have believed.”

The benefit of freewill allows the highest morality known to man to be expressed and that morality is love. Since the benefit of freewill is love there is also a negative that becomes possible and that is the opposite of love which is evil.
No freewill then everyone becomes nothing more than robots or computers who always do exactly what they are programmed to do.
Freewill also allows the benefit of worship and again if you are a robot then you really can not worship.
I hope this has answered your question sufficiently.

No God could not make us happy without Free Will
As the benefit is it is our choice what ever we do in our life on earth
It is our choice and with that comes "Self Responsibility" so we have no one to blame for our mistakes but ourselves : )
However with every mistake we gain our own personal Growth and learn not to make the same mistake again
And if we don't learn the first time it becomes a harder task to conquer no pain no gain.
Love & Blessings

Freewill is to show you you that we are incapable of being equal to God so why do we act as though we are almighty. Humans have the power to think, whereas animals act on instinct. Based on the history of man who is truly the savage man or beast. The only difference is man can offer excuses for the evil atrocities they do in a attempt to justify it, but in the end we all are doomed to HELL for our part.

God does not give free will. Free will comes from the individuals mind without any outside sorces or influences. For example not stealing because the commandments say so does not give free will. Choosing to buy a cd and your friends telling you it sux influences you choice thus no free will. Heres the definition of free will according to merriam websters dictionary:
freedom of humans to make choices that are not determined by prior causes or by divine intervention
That being said... Free will does not exist if you believe in a God because he influences your choices. You could say he gave you a will, but not free will.
Free will= personal choice without outside influeces
Will= choice

We would never grow in understanding without free will. There are so many times I’d like to do one thing, but I know it would be wrong, spiritually speaking. Without free will I wouldn’t have the opportunity to make the right decision. It would be my only possible decision. Sometimes we learn more about what is really right for our life when we mess up. If you never messed up, look at all the lessons you would never learn.

One benefit of free will is that you are not a Robot , and as God is omnipotent he could have made us anyway he wanted . i think he was bored when he made people because there was no TV mentioned in the bible on the creation front , much less an internet connection ( not even dial-up)

Free will has nothing to do with our happiness here on earth....
Free will is about the ability to freely choosing to accept God as savior or rejecting him. Some choose him others reject him. That is the essence of freewill.

We have to choose to love, its not true love if its forced out of you. And plus Satans whole argument was that God wasnt giving him and the angels freedom to choose what they want. So now we're in the process of proving God as just, and not forcing us, we all now have freedom to choose God, or to choose the Devil. Fairs fair.

"happy" is gladness caused by pleasant circumstances. Unless you want Him to make us programmed with a 'smile-every-two-minutes' instruction, free will is there. Besides, do you really hate choosing so much?
