A con to a cluster bomb is: you can't dance or run fast enough to get out of the way of the little rascals. Pro:...do a mighty fine job of working on a bunch of the bad guys in a huddle...Go Bomblets!

A cluster bomb is an area munition. If a target area has no civilians and is spread out it could be a good target for a cluster bomb.
A point target, or a target in a civilian area, would not be a good target for a cluster bomb.

Cluster bombs drop little "bomblets" as they are deployed. This helps with "carpet bombing" of ground troupes or military bases -- the explosives are spread out over a larger area then with a standard bomb. The problem is they are "dumb," not precision guided. Only the laws of physics determine where the bomblets will land. If used in populated areas the risk of civilian causalities is significant.

Cluster munitions are a real headache. Has it ever occured to any of you knuckleheads answering this question that the groundpounders may HAVE to move through an area where cluster munitions have been seeded to conduct, say, BDA? Hello? Are any of you actually in a position to have to DEAL with the stuff?

Those things at worst have upto a 25% failure rate and they're EXCEEDINGLY painful to render safe. They're a danger to civilians, livestock, and our own personnel. Wherever they're used, they kill children for YEARS afterwards (a lot of them are brightly colored, which is attractive to small kids). I've met Iraqi kids under the age of 10 who have no arms and have vicious abdominal scars thanks to those things. Hell, one of our own guys was MAIMED by one.

So the answer is there is NOTHING good with cluster munitions. If you want to cover a large area, use a FAE instead. If you want to seed mines using cluster munitions, you're out of your mind. If you're still not convinced, you're probably some idiot whose only experience with these things has been through TELEVISION.

Next time you feel the urge to run your mouth and ignore reality and the consequences of other people getting hurt by something stupid your unthinking, ignorant self thinks is cool, SHUT UP.

If the US is dropping a Cluster Bomb on your head you probably deserve it. They're great for what they're designed to do...

I don't get it, liberals cry about US casualty figures, but they would love to ban a weapon that prevents US casualties...

I see no problem with using them.

They were made for one reason. To cover a wide area, and take out as much as possible.

Tactically, nothing. Post-conflict, however, there is the problem of unexploded bomblets which can be extremely dangerous to innocent civilians.

I don't see any problems with them. They work equally well in Iraq as on the border of the USA.
