christianity is sooo much more than just saying "jesus is lord" "hallelujah" and "amen." it is a way, like all religions, of trying to come to understandings of soul, truth and purpose. how you live is the point, how you treat people is the point, not just what you say.
christianity requires study, not just of the bible but of people, how to reach them, not just telling them what will happen after "the rapture."
would it not be more effective if you shut up and listen to the world around you, to put yourself beside jesus for a minute or two a day to ask yourself what you think of the comparison?

i strongly disagree when you say that we cannot compare ourselves to jesus, i would think that jesus would ask that of us if nothing else. we should constantly strive for that in us which is ethereally "jesus-like"

we can all be prophets of god, that seems to be god's gift. it is when we are muddled about in thinking we are not god like or jesus like that we are prone to thinking we are nothing but sin. and as one created in the image of god, i am a little bit more than sin alone. we are god's greatest potential for understanding.

I think you've absolutely hit the nail on the head. Anyone can call themselves a Christian but not at all be serious about following Christ. Check out the first couple of links below for a couple concerns I have about those who claim to be Christians but who, like you said, just don't have the discipline to remain as a follower of Christ.

Most are not equipped with the power to do so.
Many novices are required to go out and witness when they themselves are not grounded in their own faith.
The religious systems of man have devised over 930 doctrines, so depending on the denomination, you may get conflicting answers.
That is why God calls it Babylon.
There is no rapture, by the way.
But God will have a perfect church.
There are many so called Christians who talk the talk, but sin all the time. Few realize that judgment begins in the household of God.
But what would you say to someone who walked in the steps of Jesus Christ, who could pray and miracles happen, who could cast mountains into the sea, who could heal the sick and raise the dead, make blind eyes see and the deaf to hear? What if you met someone who walked in perfect love? One who lived a holy life before your eyes without 'shoving doctrine down your throat' as it is so aptly put at times?
What if you beheld a people that could do greater works than Jesus? He said there would be those who will.
Jesus also said "Marvel not that the world hate you. They hated me before they hated you."

A Christian life is a day to day life. It is a progression and a perfecting of that which you were called. If Christians live by examples around them, they would be a failure to God, man and themselves. Our example, have to be Christ, obedience to His Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our lives. Anything short of that is failure. A Christian cannot treat others right if they for themselves do not have a right relationship with God. They wouldn't be able to love if the Spirit of Love is not living in them. All of what you said is good to a point but that cannot keep the fleshly nature under control. Only yielding to the Holy Spirit, meaning being Spirit Filled can accomplished that day to day walk in the Lord. Love, be bless.

I agree. I believe that Christ calls us to be His witnesses, His representatives and His likeness here on earth. Jesus came not only to die but also to teach, by example, that it is possible to be human and sinless. I don't know of any who have attained that. Even Paul said that the more he tried to do good, the more aware of sin he became. Christianity is a discipline and like all disciplines it takes time to learn but I am sure the one who began a good work in us, will follow it through to completion.

Christianity is Jesus Christ, it is not a way of life , it is life, It is not a religion it is the person of Jesus Christ, either you have Christ or you don't. You do not put yourself beside Jesus. He is first and last and all that is in between in whatever you do. If you love me you will keep my commandments. We are commanded to take the good news of salvation to the ends of the earth. The whole word of God, not just feel good/bad excerpts.

Christianity is following Jesus to the throne of God.
Sure, you can do it without study and work, but you will be like a babe still sucking the bottle. I'd rather go for the meat of the matter (did I mention I love a good steak? lol).
You are right, it is supposed to be an ongoing study of how to change ourselves to reflect Christ. A lot of us don't get it. But a lot of us do :)

I agree.
I have "ministered" to many simply by the life our family tries to lead. The way we treat those around us. When questioned, they are often surprised by our faith, and our Church family. They want to learn more.
And the study? It never ends.

Why do you want others to shut up and listen to your lecture?
Are you a prophet of God?

we can't compare ourselves to jesus - we fall incredibly short. and i do think you're wrong to say that many christians aren't equipped to maintain the christian faith. it will always prevail.
