Why do we sing "Rock a bye baby" to lull our little ones to sleep when the song is about putting your baby in a tree and letting the wind crash the cradle to the ground?

1. One of the most famous lullabies, "Rock-a-bye Baby", is hardly lulling (at least the first verse). Although it starts mildly enough, it quickly turns to disaster:

Rock a bye baby on the tree top,
When the wind blows the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks the cradle will fall,
And down will come baby, cradle and all.
The author of this lullaby isn't known. The Great American Baby Almanac reports that it was written by a pilgrim on the Mayflower and was inspired by a custom of the Wampanoag native people, who suspend their cradleboards in trees during fine weather

2nd question- not one to use dergatory words he would obviosuly be a queen

it makes me wonder about the 'rock a bye baby' 1 because a lot of lullaby's and nursery rhymes are the same. such as 'ring a ring of roses' is to do with the black death.

i would expect hes a king as is a queen marries a man they becom a king and if a kind marries a woman they become a queen.

Theyre probably telling the baby to sleep or their godmother will take them away.

And the gay king... I think they'll kick'em out before he gets crowned "queen" or something.

The dark ages were so screwed up that they probably wouldn't let a gay man be king.

it goes back to the pilgrims who saw the indians who hung their infants in baskets and they would imitate that, and they created this little rhyme
