It might but it will cost you too much and a mess, get yourself a product called "Level Best" made by Savorgran, comes in a red, white and blue box and its a powder, add water and mix right on your floor and then using a 6" broad knife (wide putty knife) skim coat your floor you'll have to do this any way to put down a new floor, it will harden like concrete within an hour, Good luck Les the painter

go to a flooring company or maybe lowes or home depot.....
They make a liquid type of "something that you mix with water and spray on the old adhesive.....you let sit a few minutes then take putty knife or something similar and scrape it up and it actually works, have used it before.....Only thing is the one I used came in 5 gallon bucket and do not know if it comes any smaller but you can always check...............

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water Jack fell down and broke his crown And Jill came tumbling after. Up got Jack, and home did trot As fast as he could caper He went to bed and bound his head With vinegar and brown paper.

Have you tried WD-40 ? it removes almost every "sticky" residue I have ever dealt with and doesn't harm the finish!

Les is right.
You could possibly go right over them if they are stable enough but it depends on what you're replacing the flooring with.
Here's a good link:

goo gone can get anything off. if there's something it can't get off it's got to be attended to with a blowtorch.
