We made our own maypole one year. Rather than using the traditional Red and white ribbons, we used all sorts of fun colors like pink and blue and green. The kids had a ton of fun dancing around it. Ideas for dinner? I'd do a spring salad, fruit is always a good choice (it's a symbol of fertility). The best spells for this time of year are things to bring things into your life (make them fruitful). Though sabbats aren't traditionally used for things like that (that's what the full moon which is tomorrow night is for). Make some sugar cookies into shapes of trees, flowers and rabbits. Remember, this is a spring celebration.

You could glue various colors of ribbons of crepe paper to a stick and wave them and dance around to music - a modern version of a May dance for those of us lacking a pole.

Take them to a florist and have them each pick three to five different flowers (depending on how many kids you have), then take the lot home and put them in a vase for a family bouquet - it doesn't matter if anything matches, or if you have seven of one thing and three of another!

Make cookies together and draw suns and flowers on them in decorative icing.

Serve them with my favorite potion: equal parts ginger ale, hawaiian punch, and raspberry sherbet.

Edit: oh yes, and a dinner with the associated foods might be shellfish (like shrimp maybe), salad, and strawberries.

I don't have any ideas for your kids, but I'm spending it with my husband. We're going out to watch a fire, then celebrate what Beltane is really about.

You could make it like an extended Easter, focusing on the symbols of fertility, feeling the energies of growing plants outside, talk about life coming from the death of winter. Include a salad with dinner. Decorate trees with ribbons.
