Hey Friend.........
I know and understand your story....There really are people whose lives basically revolove around God. You don't have to do anything special...Just act as if He was your best friend and you can't stop talking to Him. Seriously. Say "Hi" when you wake up in the morning and give Him a "Thanks!" whevever something good happens. You'll catch on to it a lot faster than you would think. God bless.

Sister, life is hard and many times people do what they can do with the brain power they have. I also left the church for similar reasons, hypocrites. I became an Atheist, but one day, I was in a sweat lodge, completely dark, and these small lights that looked much like fire flies came in the lodge (we do not have them in the desert). As a scientist when I observed the lights, no beams, just round floating lights, I understood there is more to life then what we can explain. So I travel the "Red Road", and I still fail because I am human with character defects. But, I also realize it isn't the words of God revealed to Prophets or medicine men that are wrong, it is how fallible people interpret them. You need to rely on faith, watch the world around you and answers will be provided, pray when you get up and at sun set. Pray for peace, health, and prosperity. Do not have too much hope, it is a trap, have faith. Always know there is a reason for all things good and bad and that we cannot always explain them scientifically, but look for the good in the bad. Maybe a door opens that was not open before, just because some meanie stepped on your path, in your job in your life. I know God exists because he showed me it is real. I wish God would show others, but until that time, with no scientific proof, many will refuse God exists. Find a wise teacher to help you. Be careful, there are many bad ones. : )

Religion provides "community" and for most people that is enough, in addition to giving them a simple "method" for dealing with their fear of death.
We all live by faith - not the Dee Henderson meaning - in that our experience of reality is a mirror of consciousness. The more spiritual work we do, the more we understand the difference between our "learned" little self, and the one we were born with, and the more authentic we become (remember who we are!) increases the chance of fulfilling our purpose here and experiencing eternal aliveness or a happy life. Read, search and seek the truth about yourself and the origins of Christianity.

Look to the relationship with God and Jesus rather than to the church itself. Many people who are proclaimed Christians go to church every week and give lots of money to the collection and stand up and sit down etc. when they are told to...but this is not God's way..it is man's way. Nowhere in the Bible does Jesus or God ever say one single word about having a specific church or a specific church body. That is man's invention in an attempt to spread the word...and unfortunately, it has been changed hundreds of times to accomodate the needs of the people and for financial or other reasons.
Yes, many of us live our lives based on the wishes of God. As I said at first...look to the relationship...not the religion.

Do you have a Calvary Chapel church in your area? Calvary Chapel teaches from the bible every single day. It's all about Jesus, all about faith, all about trusting God.
How you become one of these people is to immerse yourself in His word, and in prayer. That is why I could recommend any Calvary Chapel to anyone, because this is a church devoted to teaching His word, and being doers of His word.
The more you get into the bible, the stronger your faith grows, the more your trust in Jesus grows, the more you can give over your life to Him. It's an exciting journey and I wish you the very best in your Christian walk.

It helps if you are in a community of like-minded people. Does your church have a lot of other kinds of things going on in addition to Sunday services? Like praise/worship singing, bible study, ministries to youth, the elderly, the sick, etc. Maybe you can help get something started, like volunteering as a group at a food bank or shelter. Talk to your minister about your question too. Good luck.

More than expecting someone in a building to tell you how to think or feel it is better to seek God out for yourself and the Bible is a good tool if that is your belief. That happens to be mine, so I rely on what Jesus speaks to me personally along with reading my Bible to find the answers to some of my questions. A personal realtionship can not be compared to being told how to think. Best Wishes to you!!

I don't see your question, but I understand and will answer this debate topic.
Most people do not feel comfortable enough with their belief to turn their life completely over to it. That is their decision. They are the only ones who can understand the language that their soul speaks. The only one who can decide what they want to believe is them-- let them.
It is impossible to understand.
Thank you for your time.

Faith is believing in something you have not yet experienced, seen, or heard. For Christians we have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. Religion on the other hand is man's attempt to please God. Man cannot please God, God is holy, we are not. The only thing we can do to please God is to trust Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. I know I let God shape my life and feel His presence in it. You can have the same thing my friend all you need to do is repent from sin, trust Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior, and accept Him in your heart. Then God the Father will give you the Holy Spirit which He gives all believers in Jesus name. The Holy Spirit is our guide and counselor in life and will shape our lives to God's purpose. Remember this all starts with faith in Christ for our salvation. If we follow the Holy Spirit we are under grace and not under the law, so we do not need to try to please God rather we live for God. Peace be with you.

Follow God, and not man....men will let you down...God will not.
Read the Bible and pray with an open heart and open mind...let God convict you of your beliefs and lead you in the paths of righteousness...
Find a church that teaches you to seek God...not look to dogma preached for hundreds of years...or to look to other's interpretations of scripture...
