A friend of mine started potty training right away. Since her daughter makes a face before she has to poo, she just puts her on her little potty and then avoids cleaning up a dirty diaper. This also gets her used to going on the potty. She's 6 months old now and lets her mom know before she had to poo. I'd say that's a good start!

When your child shows an intrest in it. If you start too early it will be a struggle for both of you. Also not before or immeditaly after major changes. We are in the military and started to potty train our daughter at 18 months, 3 moves and a deployment later we have finally finished (she is now 3). Although she still has accidents when daddy's schedule gets changed. Our son is sorta potty training himself at 2. we have a new baby coming in june so I'M not going to push the issue until things have settled with the new little one.

If you plan on enrolling your child in preschool most ask that they be completely potty trained by the age of three.

A good age is when you child is showing intrest. You just have to remember to be patient - some kids get the hang of it right a way and some don't. Just remember not to pressure your child - make it fun and it will work better. Try singing songs, dancing, reading books, pointing out how mommy/ daddy goes potty and don't forget to reward them when they have gone potty. Each kid is different and it will take a while to find out what they need as incentive to make it to the bathroom every time. Good Luck with these messy times.

My son was 2 years and 10 months. I almost tried at 2 1/2, but he got sick (really sick, it lasted about a month). Then I almost tried a couple months later, but my second son was due in a few weeks. Neither of those were good times, you need to make sure your child is healthy and life is settled and won't change dramatically anytime soon. I'd tried to see if he'd use the toilet each of those times, and he just had no desire. So I didn't force it. Two months after the birth of my second son, my oldest watched my husband use the bathroom (at my request) and has been peeing and pooping in the toilet ever since and loves it. Sure, he was a little older, but you know what? I didn't have to force the issue, he was ready to go on his own. My goal was to have him trained before his third birthday, and with four more weeks left until his birthday, I consider it a success. And boy was it easy!

I believe it all depends on the child. You will see signs of them being ready to potty train. If there taking off ther diaper or they tell you when they need to go to the bathroom, start taking them to it! Also, you could try the videos or potty training books and see how they respond! Good luck!

I'm not even going to start trying until my son is 2 years old. Until then, I'm thinking about buying a potty chair that he can sit on and get used to (he's almost 18 months).

My personal opinion is to start around the age of 2 to 2 1/2 years old.

your child will let you know. Normally around 3. My son is almost 3.5 and we're tryingl working on it, he's still just not ready. I was told if he wasn't potty trained by 4 then the doctors would worry.

Age 2 is usually good. My Mom started us all at age 2. Don't get frustrated or give up if at first if it looks like it's not working. Just keep trying!
Hope this helps. :)
