Ok first off, I am a junior and about to fail out of college. I mean I was put on Academic Probation last semester which means I need a 2.0 this semester to stay in the university I'm in and I'm afraid it's not going to happen. I have been working my butt off and I have not been to any party in all of my 3 years here. I am one of those people who takes me a very long time to understand something and I'm just losing hope. I mean if I do fail out of school, will other colleges accept me? Is there still a chance that I could have a good future? I'm losing all hope and I need some "survival" stories if anyone has any of their own or even a friend or family member that they know of?

Thank you so much!

This is not unusual. Many students do not do as well in college as they did in HS. The pace and time available to study is different. There are several solutions to assist you. You mentioned that you have not been partying and it takes a long time to understand something. Try enrolling in a study strategies class. Some colleges call it "Learning Academy". You can learn methods of improving reading, memory and studying techniques. Get a front seat in class to a minimize distractions and to hear the instructor better. Utilize tutoring services through The Disabled Students Department, EOPS or Career Placement.center. They have several workshops to help students succeed. Try forming a study group with some of your classmates. It could be a sense of support. Schedule a meeting with your instructor during their office hours to discuss your concerns. He/she may have sugggestions. For many people the core classes in their major are the most difficult. Especially in Business or Engineering. I usually did better in English and social studies than math and science. I was not a good student in school. I was grateful to get by with C's in college. I have a hearing loss and I was missing a lot during class lectures. I thought I could just do the assignments and reading to make up for it. I was wrong. I always got low test scores. Now, I wear an assisted listening device to class. I wear headphones and the instructor talks into a microphone. For once, I am an "A" student and I made the Dean's list this semester. It is possible, you may have a learning disability. It means you need accommodations because you learn differently than the traditional student. Search the Internet for college survival and study skills websites. There are also books available through amazon.com. Your major may not be right for you. The career placement center has tests that can determine your strenghts and interests. There are many well-paying job titles that require an AA Degree or a certificate instead of a BA. There is also Adult Education and Community Education programs that are less academic and more occupation-oriented. There is a lot out there. Don't lose hope. Your diligence is to be admired. Good luck!

Whoa. First of all, calm down. I know it has got to be scary but you have to keep hopeful and don't give up. If you want to have a good life I recommend a tutor. Failing out of college is not a good thing. You need to do something so that you can keep up your grades.
1.Get a tutor
2.Ask alot of questions (this will help you understand better)
3.Study alot! (even study things over if you don't have a test!!! This will help you remember and understand things more clearly)
4. Re-Read things. (then you can make sure you will remember them)
5. Take notes in class (this way when you get to doing your homework, you won't be like, "wait, how did my teacher say to do this?" Also, writing things helps you get to know things and remember them.

If you do all of these things, you won't fail! You have to be dedicated though. This will take some time and work. Good Luck and like I said, don't give up! There are many options for you!!! :)))

It may simply be that you're not in the "right" place - and I don't mean the right college. It may be that a four-year college is not the best option for you. Perhaps you'd do best with a technical school (are you more mechanically inclined? At any sort of work with your hands? Trades offer very high paying jobs, a lot better salaries them some people get with a quite useless B.A. degree).

if you really think about it, all you have to do is study. You've got a thousand teachers. Your friends, family, even your boyfriend. (if you have one). Just keep your spirits up. In fact, once you make a good grade, go out and have some fun. It will help strive to get better goals. I know this advice helped me get through college with flying colors.

man i was deffinatly the same way back in highschool, for any math class i struggled to grasp it immidiately like everyone else did. i dont recall how i pulled it off, but i passed the required trig class my senior year and went off to a moderatly nice college. man the trick is, you just have to ask for help. even if you do feel retarded asking for help, at least you wont be in the dark. if you still dont get it, ask again man. you have to keep on keeping on.
