So I think it's only fair that if gays aren't allowed to marry because it is sanctioned as a holy ceremony "created" by Christianity, that Christians are no longer allowed to: listen to Cher, Elton John, or Barbara Striesand, dress well, "hug a buddy", go to the gym, watch a movie with someone of the same sex, have dinner together, go to the beach together, live together, have a drink together (or a Cosmopolitan for that matter), wear clothes deemed snug fitting, be comfortable in acting outside the "regulated gender stereotypes" (no tomboys or sensitive guys), watch "Jerry Maguire" "Mission Impossible" or any other movie starring Tom Cruise, read any tabloid/magazine not clearly marketed to your specific gender, men cannot eat salads, women no red meat, or see a Broadway show, because clearly those are arenas designated to be shared between a man and a man, or a woman and woman. Otherwise it is an abomination and will ultimately unravel the fabric of family values.

*this is not a legitimate proposition...only to demonstrate the ludicrousness and triviality of outlawing gay "marriage", and "Biblical law"

*laughs* Good point.

By the way, doesn't anyone else find it absurd that solely religious doctrine is being legislated into our SECULAR law?

I'm Christian but that's just a technical term, I haven't gone to anything involving religion in over 14 or so years. You're right, we have grown as a country (and World) on the marriage issues, which is why you answered your own question... It may take us a while, but I hope one day it will not only be common but also normal to see gay couples/families everywhere, just as interracial marriages and etc. have become welcomed. There is something that is peculiar though. Was polygamy and/or interracial marriages and relationships forbidden "way back when" because of religion, I'm not sure, I think it was just considered "unconstitutional". The argument you made mention of before, 1. A miserable and abusive straight family (very common) 2. A happy and loving gay family (very common) Was indeed a good one, I stress to my friends (if it comes up, and we really don't get into it because of conflicts) that Why should we be allowed to abuse our families and mostly get away with it when they don't even have a chance to become one? Anyways, I completely agree with your statements and hope that someday we will get past this. (P.S. some people are so Catholic they won't ever change their minds, on anything.)

Well my feeling is this...Gays are people just like us, who are we or anyone else to say that they are not allowed to share in the same ceremonies as we do. I have always felt who cares if they marry or not, as long as they are happy, we have no right to say otherwise. How do you define normal, none of us are normal. I say if you want to marry, gay or straight that is totally up to the individuals, not us as a society. They should have the same rights as us, they are no different, they just choose to be with someone of the same gender. What about swingers, why are they not criticized, they go against they "traditional" meaning of marriage. A union between two people that ,ove each other, well they choose to bring in other couples, this topic is so far fetched that it is pathetic...think of it this way, what if your son or daughter came home and said they were gay, would you still feel the same way???? NOT.

That's why homosexuals are called "gay" people. They are really gay! The heterosexuals look so sad. Whenever you see a couple you can immediately know whether they are married or not: if they are sad they are married, if they are looking dull and dead they are married. Marriage kills all joy for the simple reason that it creates so many conflicts. Hence all societies have condemned homosexuality, for the simple reason that if it is not condemned, what will happen to reproduction? In the past it had some meaning, but now it has no meaning.

The whole debate that everyone pushes under the rug, is people don't want Gay marriages to get the same tax benefits straight people get. I am Christian, and I do not care if two people of he same sex want to get married or not. The bible spells it out plain and clear what God's point of view is on the subject. I am not the enforcer here of the bible. So I do not think it is fair you blame all Christains. BTW, you couldn't pay me to go watch a Tom Cruise movie!

A note to James M.

The marriage success rate is 70 % for those marriages where both parties are in a first time marriage.

Its higher than that for those who didn't live together before marriage.

Its higher than that for those who pray together and attend church together.

The media just wants us to think the divorce rate is 50% for everyone and that's really deceiving.

The divorce rate for 2nd time marriages is 70% and 90% for third time marriages.

Average them all in together and you get 50%.

But its very deceiving to tell young people just starting out you only have a 50 50 chance.

Government told Gay's they couldn't marry; not really the church. Though I will say that a lot of people use it as an argument and a lot of church groups are against gay marriages. You probably shouldn't stereotype though, I am a Christian and I think that Gay people have just as much of a right to Gay marriage as anyone else. There are a lot of church's that also feel that way.

I will also add that any one government or clergy, preacher, minister who claims and vows to be under the Word and Will of Almighty God and then commits to marry two men or two women in holy matrimony does stand in the divine judgment of Christ and will be held accountable for defiling the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ and is considered accursed.

Your original premise is incorrect:
Marriage was not ordained by Christianity.
Marriage was ordained by God, as attested to by Jesus.
It was ordained in Genesis.

The rest of your diatribe is without merit. (FYI, you forgot the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations.)

If YOU want to be united to someone of the same gender, go ahead. Just don't ask the church to put their stamp of approval on it.

I agree with you 110%. In addition, let them pick up the bill for the taxes we gays and lesbians won't have to pay, especially those taxes earmarked for education, WIC (food stamp) benefits, welfare, Social Security spose benefits, etc.

Divorce rate is over 50%...the sanctity of marriage was not ruined by homosexuals...it was ruined by heterosexuals...

And true...why do Christians point out the suppossed sin of homosexuality...yet, disregard all other sins that hit closer to home for them...

Again, the Bible says more about divorce than it does about most any other sin...why aren't they railing against the divorced and picketing divorce lawyers offices...and courthouses...divorce is ruining society...not gay marriage.
