A point of interest - I Nephi 13:26: “a great and abominable church - has taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away.”
The Book of Mormon tells us that this is 600 B.C.! Do you know what B.C. means - BEFORE CHRIST! So we are told that the gospel of the Lamb has been polluted six hundred years before the Lamb or His Gospel was recorded in the New Testament and given at the Passover!

Mormon_4: this is not a valid statement. If Barney the purple dinosoar prophesied and we disregarded him should we also disregard the OT prophecies? On the other hand, does Nephi's prophecies validate the OT. No, they only contradict them. In light of that fact, yes, you can throw out Nephi's prophecies.

Pinkadot: The gospel was corrupted? According to which scholar? There is not one Biblical scholar (other than Jewish) that would claim that the gospel is polluted. Mormons and JWs would claim that the gospel is corrupted only so they may put their slant on it. Cause people to distrust the NT and then "fix" it. As Matthew 7: 15 says, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

Why would I want to read a book that talks about another book, when I could simply just read the first one?

This was a prophecy for the future and it was not talking about the time it was written.
It is a known fact that everything the apostles wrote or said was not included in the Bible. When the Catholic Church assembled the writing of the apostles to make the Bible they decided which writing of which apostles to include in the Bible.
So yes many things were left out.
Even today there are many translations ( modern versions) that changes things in the Bible. Go to any religious bookstore and read the various versions of the Bible and see how different they are.

These are the verses before that. It is saying once it has left the hands of the Jew unto the Gentiles that it will become corrupt through translation. We believe the bible to be correct as far as it translated correctly. Think of all the different translations out there. One verse means 5 different things now, depending on how it's translated. Is that not in agreeance with these verses. He states that it is pure, but will not be once in the hands of the Gentiles. He had the pure version, but was telling him that it will not always be in this form. Oh and i also added the entire verse 26.
24 And the angel of the Lord said unto me: Thou hast beheld that the book proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew; and when it proceeded forth from the mouth of a Jew it contained the fulness of the gospel of the Lord, of whom the twelve apostles bear record; and they bear record according to the truth which is in the Lamb of God.
1 Ne 13:25
25 Wherefore, these things go forth from the Jews in purity unto the Gentiles, according to the truth which is in God.
26 And after they go forth by the hand of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, from the Jews unto the Gentiles, thou seest the formation of that great and abominable church, which is most abominable above all other churches; for behold, they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away.

The Mormons are not really firm in what they believe. Joseph Smith rewrote the Bible, at one point, but his version is not what the LDS use as scripture, instead they use the KJV. IF they believe that Joseph Smith was given the "restoration" of the gospel, why don't they use his translation of the Bible? Was he a prophet that had the inspired word of God? Evidently even the LDS church does not think so, or they would use his version of the Bible.
"EXTENT OF THE CHANGES. Joseph Smith made extensive corrections and additions to the books of Genesis, Exodus, Psalms, Isaiah, Matthew, Luke, Romans, 1 Corinthians, Galatians, Hebrews, James, 2 Peter, and Revelation. He also made many alterations in the writings of the Old Testament prophets and in Mark, John, Acts, and several of the epistles. He made no changes in Ruth, Ezra, Esther, Ecclesiastes, Lamentations, Obadiah, Micah, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Malachi, Philemon, 2 John, and 3 John. He made some corrections in all other books of the Bible, and rejected the Song of Solomon as not being inspired scripture."

Uh, yeah. We know through revelation there are plain and previous parts missing in the bible, that is most of the reason we have the Book of Mormon...it has a few purposes: To declare the gospel, to declare the divinity and life/mission of Jesus Christ, and to stand as a witness that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God.
That was the need for the restoration...the gospel had been corrupted and needed to be restored to its fulness and truth.
And that happened, through the prophet Joseph Smith on April 6, 1830 when the LDS church was organized.

It was a prophesy. Even if it wasn't a prophesy, The OT is part of the Gospel of the lamb (just because he wasn't physically there doesn't mean it's not his) and that all happened way before 600 B.C.
Have a great day! :)

This is a vision that Nephi saw of later days. Read the whole Book and you will understand. This happens a lot, and I only ask people to study the whole thing without taking it out of context.

Watch the Show on TV at the Moment on PBS its Very Good
They are actually slightly light on the Mormons. With some of the accusations they could have come down much harsher, but for some reason they did not.
Check out the FAIR.COM web site, it mentions another critical DVD which attacks the LDS group, and claims that 90,000 DVDs were sent out. Well, the number is actually closer to 500,000 and so fair.com have been a little off on this detail. Much of the LDS response has been short of accurate... quite funny in fact.

If Nephi's prophecies about the future are to be thrown out, then all the prophecies in the Old Testament are no good, either.

You left out verse 23, that goes before that:
"23 And he said: Behold it proceedeth out of the mouth of a Jew. And I, Nephi, beheld it; and he said unto me: The book that thou beholdest is a record of the Jews, which contains the covenants of the Lord, which he hath made unto the house of Israel; and it also containeth many of the prophecies of the holy prophets; and it is a record like unto the engravings which are upon the plates of brass, save there are not so many; nevertheless, they contain the covenants of the Lord, which he hath made unto the house of Israel; wherefore, they are of great worth unto the Gentiles."
If we thought too much was lost, we wouldn't use the Bible as scripture like we do - but we agree with the teachings of the Book of Mormon that the Bible is "of great worth unto the Gentiles."
Thanks

Joseph Smith says the book of Mormons is the most correct of any book on earth, KJV is 1611 published, Mormon book is 1830, so I do disagree as I think the bible is the best book ever and I have studied the book of Mormons as seriously as I did the bible and I did study the people in that book as serious as I have all the people in the bible.
The three major religions in the time of Jesus did not have a clue as to what the Old Testament was all about Luke 16:16,17,29,31; Jesus could have given them a parable or a story of any kind and he could have read their hearts to tell any one what they were all about.
