Also known as: Sataniel, The Devil, Beelzebub, Abaddon, Apollyon, Destroyer, the Dragon, the old serpent, the prince of this world, the god of this world, etc.
Meaning: adversary; accuser
When used as a proper name, the Hebrew word translated as "Satan" has the article "the adversary" (Job 1:6-12; 2:1-7). In the New Testament it is used as interchangeable with Diabolos, or the devil, and is so used more than thirty times.
He is also called "the dragon," "the old serpent" (Rev. 12:9; 20:2); "the prince of this world" (John 12:31; 14:30); "the prince of the power of the air" (Eph. 2:2); "the god of this world" (2 Cor. 4:4); "the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience" (Eph. 2:2).
The distinct personality of Satan and his activity among men are thus obviously recognized. He tempted our Lord in the wilderness (Matt. 4:1-11). He is "Beelzebub, the prince of the devils" (12:24). He is "the constant enemy of God, of Christ, of the divine kingdom, of the followers of Christ, and of all truth; full of falsehood and all malice, and exciting and seducing to evil in every possible way."
His power is very great in the world. He is a "roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Pet. 5:8). Men are said to be "taken captive by him" (2 Tim. 2:26). Christians are warned against his "devices" (2 Cor. 2:11), and called on to "resist" him (James 4:7).
Christ redeems his people from "him that had the power of death, that is, the devil" (Hebrews 2:14). Satan has the "power of death," not as lord, but simply as executioner.
I guess i dont understand If the is no God or NO Satan
how is there something instead of nothing?
God is Real Christ Jesus is not fiction for he did exsist and still does Heavenly Father open his eyes to see that the devil is real for he has foothold on him and is seeking to whom he can devour
for your sake i hopr your right.

I actually do think Satan is real. And your theory that he was"designed to keep the gullible sheep in the pews and the collection plate full" makes no sense because that is not what Christianity is about. And I know it is wierd to beleive that, and it makes hardly any sense. But a lot of things make no sense, but it does not negate the fact that it is truth. I know. .that was totally confusing. . sorry.

The exorcist was a movie based on a real story. Many stories of possession were based on real true to life stories. Also satan has pestered many saints and caused them harm. Jesus was also tempted by the devil. The devil exists as the others have said he and his demons wants us to lose our souls and they want us all to go to hell. satan is real. He is responsible for pornography and the other perversions and addictions we see. he possesses some people and makes them act like crazy. Read the life of Saint John Marie Vianney, and other famous saints and usually they had to battle the devil. This is why the Catholic Church uses holy water to drive the devil away when they sense the power of the devil in a certain place. Many movies show satanic worshipers and satanic influences. Usually the violence, unholy use of sexual powers and ugly things on earth may be attributed to satan. Abortion is also one of his favorite activities.

His demons put thoughts into people's minds such as "can Satan really exist - how silly".
If you believe in Jesus' gospel you usually believe in many ideas that cannot be proved visibly in an easy way. But you do get proof as you travel on the way that it is indeed true. Some christians receive supernatural gifts and can see into the supernatural realm and can see angels and so forth. Satan is the leading fallen angel according to Jesus.

I am a Contemporary Pagan and I can honestly say I have encountered a lot of Christians who really do in all honesty believe that Satan is real. And they think I'm going to Hell for not being Christian. And they are not afraid to say so. Clearly these people exist and they have their own agenda in promoting belief in their Satan/Devil.

Do you believe that human beings are basically good? Or bad? What motivates us to do evil? Or good? Is it something inside ourselves or an exterior force? Do we naturally molest babies, commit mass murders, rape and torture? Do we naturally run to save someone's life, or give our money to help a stranger? No. There are influences in this world, both good and evil. In your wildest dreams, could you ever murder 32 people in one day? Why? Because you were mad at rich people and Christians? But could you take that extra step and exterminate them without consideration for yourself, them or their families? Satan could. He is even more evil that we are.
If you have a cold, how would I know? Well, you could be sniffling or sneezing, or blowing your nose a lot. How do I know if you've hurt your ankle? You could be limping, or have it bandaged. There are indications that tell me these things are so. No one has to come out and say them. I can see for myself what the clues are.

Yes, I do believe that Satan is very real. I have had a great deal of personal experience with him just as I have had a great deal of experience with the Holy Spirit of God/Jesus. A person cannot classify themselves as a Christian if they do not acknowledge the absolute existance of and evil of Satan. Christ himself spoke of him and warned against allowing him to influence us.
I feel true sadness when someone like you comes along because I know that unless your attitude changes before you die, you are unfortunately destined to live out eternity without the ever presence of your creator. Perhaps you don't care...but believe it or not, we do care what happens to you and to all of our fellow human beings.
You, as have many, have allowed yourself to be suckered in to the new age of self expression and so called enlightenment that will eventually lead to your own destruction. I am not going to attempt to convince you of this fact as I know it would do no good at this point. You are only one of many who have been deceived. You have my pity.

Satan is to be better understood as an "accuser" or "adversary". The term is applied both to supernatural entities and human beings. The term Satan in Hebrew is derived from the root meaning "to oppose", "to be an adversary" or "to act as an adversary". Satan is a representation of a type of person whom believes he/she is completely independent of God and of somebody whom thinks him/herself as a potential God, in brief an self centred egotist.
Satan, from the Hebrew word for "adversary" (Standard Hebrew: שָׂטָן, Satan; Tiberian Hebrew Śāṭān; Koine Greek: Σατανάς, Persian: اهریمن, Satanás; Aramaic: סטנא, Saṭänä; Arabic: شيطان, Šayṭān, Ge'ez: ሳይጣን Sāyṭān, Turkish: Şeytan), is a term that originates from the Abrahamic faiths, being traditionally applied to an angel. Ha-Satan is the accuser, a member of the divine council, who challenged the religious faith of humans, especially in the books of Job and Zechariah. Religious belief systems other than Judaism relate this term to a demon, a rebellious fallen angel, devil, minor god and idolatry, or as an allegory for evil.

You are the very reason why I know Satan exists. He is also a liar and the father of lies. God has set his doom along with those who have refused to come to the truth already settled in the Word of God. Jesus rebuked him and cast him out of many many people unto this day and you yourself are also in need of deliverence from evil spirits. They have taken over your mind and choose to take you over completely, the next stage they wil seek from you is total possession in which only Christ can set you free from Satan's power of deception. No religion can help you save Christ alone..

That's the way to go, insult people..it's always effective in getting your point across.
Why would you care, or why does it threaten you if people do believe in God and Satan?
People have a right to their beliefs that includes those who believe that there is a God and a Devil.
