"Give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
the wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless,tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

Maybe we should just remove the plaque and put in a new one that says

"America for Americans."

or how about

"No mexicans allowed."

It seems like lady liberty is soft on this whole immigration issue, maybe we ought to take down the statue of liberty. Please write your congress today!

America, created by immigrants, for immigrants; Ruined by selfish, egotistical, xenophobic, hatemongers.

You are really history challenged along with just plain uneduated
First off those words aren't on the Statue of Liberty they are on a plague at the base of the statue with 150 others.

Second those words were written for French not the USA about the plight of the Jews by an American Jewish women named Erma Lazarus who went to live in France and died there.
In her honor her friends 20 later had those words written on a plaque those words on the base of our Statue of Liberty. It has nothing to do with immigration to the USA.

Go back to school. You are sure lacking an education.

At the time Lazarus' poem was added to the Statue of Liberty, the U.S. had a law banning Chinese immigration. It was the ONLY time in American History that a specific group was banned. You are also forgetting that 120 years ago, people wanted to assimilate and become Americans. Our door is still open - we just ask that people come the right way. Systematically, legally, patiently. The whole world has become obsessed with instant gratification, and if they don't get what they want, when they want it, they get bent out of shape. Some things are better appreciated if they are earned, not just handed out.

We allow immigrants, just not law breaking illegals. Mexicans, africans, Irish, chinese may all come but they have to follow the laws of this country. When they sneak over the border, work without papers for cash, dont pay taxes, overwhelm our public services and commit crimes (like drunk driving, killing a very famous producer) they show america what kind of people they are. They do all this and then wave the mexican flag in parades. These are not americans in any sense of the word. They are filthy disgusting criminals who should be deported the minute they are spotted. But those who follow the laws and come legally, should be treated with the utmost respect and welcomed to help build this nation.

America, created by Americans for Americans; ruined by dirty, lying, law-breaking immigrants.

If mexicans want to come, they have no problem if they come LEGALLY. But there are so many here that are in jobs, using are jobs, and then sending are money that would normaly be cyling around here, so there, and it most likely spent on drugs... and other stuff. and there is a ton of stuff you dont know that the goverment does about immigration .
So you dont know anything. What in the world are you talking about that statue before, its a statue, what a bad way to try to get your point across.

I completely agree with you. But I am also a strong proponent for the law and keeping order. Without our legal system, we would be in shambles. And part of our legal system is that you must registers when coming to America. Border Running is illegal and it needs to be dealt with. I love the legal immigrant, I despise the illegal alien.

You know there are very good reasons for people to be concerned about ILLEGAL immigration. I notice you neglect to use the word ILLEGAL. You've heard all of the reasons already. So it's obvious that you are just trying to foment hate and accusing everyone else of being haters.

It is not a political party issue it is an American issue. I am sure that illegal means the same thing in all political parties and until you just brought it up I have not noticed anyone else making it a political party issue today. Americans (all political parties) are fed up, stop illegal immigration.

Perhaps you should put down the drinking starw that you are looking through and take in the big picture.

Illegal is illegal.

There are many natural born Americans busting their rumps to achieve another day in the same house, while an illegal immigrant gets to live under the radar and enjoy the enticements that are extended to LEGAL immigrants.

Your myopic reasoning isn't any different than the hate-mongers. Open your eyes to reality and pay no mind to anyone who has nothing but hatred in their hearts.

Good point.

However, there is a serious need for all Americans to understand the ILLEGAL immigration problem.

I am an immigrant and I earned my place in America.
I don't ask anything less from anyone else.

My biggest concern is the lack of protection on our borders.
It is so easy for a terrorist to enter in.

Put your money where your mouth is. For everyone who wants to grant freedom and prosperity to foreigners at the expense of Americans, please be willing to pay for it. The poor are most affected by immigration, so feel free to bring all the immigrants you want and have unchecked immigration, but before you do, bring back and beef up welfare so the poor can afford to live without their jobs.
