Although some people are born with an awareness of ethics, most learn ethical behavior from their environment. People tend to behave in an unethical manner because they were treated that way and saw it demonstrated. Virtue is another matter. It may be a matter of karma and spiritual maturity, but 650 years ago Meister Eckhardt said it best, teaching that the highest of all virtues is the perfection of "disinterest" in creatures. Not wanting something from others, giving up resentment of others, etc. Disinterest (same as Buddhist detachment) allows one to act ethically and rationally in all situations, but it has a hidden power as well. A moment of perfect disinterestedness allows reality to shift; it is the source of creation.

Ethics are a set of beliefs that guide social interaction. Virtue is an inner essence of a person, which is a result of them acting ethically and morally. Virture is the light that shines in a person who has learned to live by eternal values.

Virtue is moral excellence, and I do not believe that anyone is born with virtue in themselves. It is something that we develop as we try to be the best person we can be. And some don't try to be the best person that they can be.

I believe it has a lot to do with your relationship with God. If you have the spirit of God in you, then you will achieve a high level of moral excellence.

I consider it to be a virtue when you place the well being of others above the well being of yourself.

Ethics has more to do with how far you will go to accomplish your goals in life, and that would be the direct opposite of the selflessness necessary to be a person of true moral excellence.

Virtue refers to inherent strengths, gifts. Easily recognizeable. Love of Truth seems first on the list, followed by Sincerity. Ethics, on the otherhand seems more toward interacting with others successfully. I may know honestly and sincerely, that a person is of low character, but it wouldn't help them (or me) to say so. So I don't. I simply refuse to deal in any way except guardedly with such a person.

Atheists are famous, for steering clear of a repressing religion and actually contributing to the world which will eventually end as our sun turns into a red giant.... Our future generations may be happy because of us and our technology that may allow us to colonize another planet.

Virtues are drawn from what we are taught from childhood and our interaction with others as we grow throughout life and experiences.

To make it very simple: anything that causes harm and suffering is non-virtuous.
