I am buying a car 70 miles away from another person (a private sale - not a dealership). I live in PA on the NJ border and the guy is in NY. It seems like a dumb **** thing to do to drive the thing down the NJ Turnpike with no tag. What is the right thing to do in this instance?? Thanks.

You can purchase a trip permit, from the DMV. Costs vary state to state, but I would think 20bucks would cover it.

As long as you have proof of insurance you should be able to get a temp tag. I don't live in PA or NJ but in CT the car does not have to be present for registering: unless it needs an inspection.

Go to the PA DMV and see if they will give you a temporary tag to use to get the car to PA. Good luck

ask your insurance company. there is usually a couple of days allowance , but check because from state to state, the rules could be different.

you might have to register the car and get the plates before you can move the car. the car does not have to be there to do that good luck.
