I'm confused by the difference of a friendship and a platonic relationship. By sifting through questions/answers online and at Yahoo! Answers, it seems that people define a platonic relationship as people of the opposite sex who have emotions for one another but don't kiss, cuddle, or have sex. True or not true?

From what I gather, it seems to me that a platonic relationship is simply a friendship. Just two different words. PotatOe PotAtoe.

Maybe y'all can help me define the two better if they are in fact different and show me the subtle differences.

A platonic relationship is a friendship. It can be same or opposite sex although it is commonly used to define an opposite sex relationship. People tend to use the word platonic to clarify that they are "just friends" and not having a sexual relationship...even though there may be sexual tension present.
