I have a 7 month old Shegle (Sheltie/beagle) and he is neutered... however, he is still humping. My pure breed beagle never did this. When will it stop and how can I have him stop. Help... my arm is not a toy

I tell him NO all the time.. I see that he starts and I tell him and he stops. Just wondered if there was a miracle time frame.

Then grow up and tell him no or he will continue to do it. You be the smart one and don't allow it.

Well, if he was recently neutered, he may still be fighting off some hormones.. that can take a month post surgery to finally level out.

However, its also a very good possibility that he is doing this as a way of showing his dominance, and if that is the case, you need too take control!

You should ALWAYS be the "top dog" aka "alfa" in your home.. and do not except anything less. Being "ALFA" does not mean being mean either. Obedience training will help with this... making the dog listen to commands instead of humping your arm is a MUST. Make him sit.. once he is "good", pat him. Make him stay off the furniture and beds.. that the "ALFA's Thrown" .. No exception.

Good Luck!

He'll stop likely, if it is s ex related and hormones.. If it's a dominant behaviour then you will have to discourage it. You should have had him neutered before he started developing bad habits.. A dog that is neutered before he lifts his leg, or starts to hump things, really never does pick up those bad behaviours..

Tell him NO, and move him away from whatever he is humping. Don't allow him to grab your arm and hump, when he starts to wrap around it, tell him in a firm voice.. NO and take back your arm...

Edit : NO, don't smack him with newspaper or anything else.. Just firmly tell him NO, and remove him.. Do not hit your dogs.. It teaches them nothing except you are too lazy to train and you resort to force like some sort of Neanderthal, and that you cannot be trusted, or respected, and you are aggressive...

My two 2 year old pugs, going on three this May and June still hump eachother, they even humped my 8 year old Dalmatian! It's not the matter they have want to have sex, they are just exhibiting dominance. Some dogs do that, and others don't. Just how they are.
Tell him NO sternly, and gently push him off.

Humping has nothing to do with neutering, in fact, canine-human humping is not sexual at all. Humping is a sign of dominance. Your dog is trying to dominate you. Your best bet is to quickly establish dominance each time your dog starts to hump your limbs. Tis can be done by gently putting your dog on his side and (gently!) hold him down until the excitment/energy leaves his body. Basically, once he stops wiggling and breathing heavy you can release him. This simple action will show your dog you are the alpha (pack leader). Stay calm and assertive!!!

LOL! There are many fixed dogs that still shows signs of "horniness". All you can do is tell the do not to do it and push them down (gently). It doesn't matter what breed or age. I have a neutered 13 yr. old cat who once in a while will get a teenie erection. You can fix the animal not to breed but you can't take the desire out.

My boxers were 8+years before we lost either of them, they humped each other all the time. They were both male and it was a dominance issue. Nothing like sitting at the dinner tabe lnd looking out the french doors to see one dog "pushing" the other around the yard! lol

The dog will hump for up to two years, just depends on the breed. Reward your dog when he is sitting still, he will come to realize that is the rewarding behavior and no humping. Tell him no whne he humps

Infact my cousins have a dog with the sameproblem. Some dogs do it to show affection or some just do it naturally. Sometimes theres no way to stop. Try being firm and saying no. Put it in its cage if it continues, tap it on its nose, or try different disciplines. Usually they stop but like my cousins dog it may not stop. Good Luck!

he's trying to dominate you. next time he does this tell him NO firmly then put him on his back and hold him down (with your body weight if you must)- this will let him know you are the dominant one. keep doing this and he will stop
