I don't have kids yet, but yes... I name any stuffed animal or doll I give a child. I try to be creative and not just call a bear "Beary". Before my cousin John was born, I bought him a bear that was already named "Honeyfitz" but I made his official name Honeyfitzgerald Kennedy Roberts. (Roberts being my cousins last name). I once bought my niece a doll and for some reason, named her Miranda Louise. I even named her red-headed Little People figurine Mary Margaret because she looked Irish-Catholic. Hee hee. The Hispanic looking one was named Pedro. I choose to think of it as being creative. Others choose to look at it as being nuts. Whatever.

When my daughter was first diagnosed with lung disease and she was in the Pedi ICU on a vent we bought her this ape stuffed animal who had these really long arms and short stubby legs. When we presented it to her stepfather said "look savanna he has no legs" and she smiled as he played with it. The name stuck "Mr.No legs" as her disease progressed and she spent more and more time in the hospital she always asked for "Mr no legs" to be with her. She also has several build a bear animals and one of them is named Leopold the leopard and the "heart" we placed a wish on that is in him was for "health and long life" he goes with her too and sleeps in her bed
My son has a yellow duck my dad gave him that we call mr duck duck..
Growing up Im sure I named my own stuffed animals and dolls I still have my very first stuffed animal it is a pink elephant I cant remember its name but its 35 yrs old

Yes you should that way he/she gets a feel for speaking normally. They learn names that way and when they want that doll or stuffed animal say which one and they'll tell you. Some like Tigger or Pooh Bear are already named.
