I've got two little nieces, one is nearly 8 & the other is 2.. My 8 year old niece is always nasty to her little sister, she'll bite & kick her as soon as our backs are turned, and she's tried to suffocate her on two occasions.. My sister has tried everything, time-out, taking away toys, putting her to bed, nothing works.. When she's not around her sister, she's lovely but as soon as the little one is around she starts.. She's told myself & my sister she wishes her little sister had never been born.. The 2 year old is absolutely adorable, and her sister hates all the attention she gets, but when you try & spend time with the 8 year old, she throws it back in your face.. My sister is at her wits end & so are the rest of my family, she's even talking about putting her in foster care for the sake of the little one.. What do we do? x

wow. I knew someone who had a similar story the age
difference is probably part of the problem. Is there any
type of childrens groups you can get the older one in
like brownies, reading group, sports anything even
getting her with other kids her age just to play at the
park. It sounds like she needs to get some of that
pent up aggression out but she is taking it out on
everyone around her. Have mom do certain activities
with just her and then sometimes with both of the girls.
Good luck I hope everything can be resolved and they
are happy together.
One last thought have you tried counseling?

um have you guys tried counseling to find out exactly what the problem is i dont know but maybe its a problem that only the mother can fix instead of punishing her take the both of them out show the both of them the same amout of attention when they are together and the mom should set aside a special time for the 8 year old all by herself just her and her mom and see if that makes a difference if it doesnt let her try foster home for a while and she'll understand why see cant have all the attention whens she's at a foster home she wont have all the attention if she trys to suffercate one of the foster kids then she NEEDS TO SE A COUNSELOR SOON!!!!!!!!

Since she's tried to suffocate her, I'd say it's well past the time for medical intervention. If you haven't already, take her in for a full medical exam, from head to toe, and ask for a recommendation for a physcologist too. Let the doctor know that the younger girl is under physical threat, and good luck!

Next time she bites kicks or suffocates your youngest niece spank her, or call the ploice, they'll come and scare the sh*t outta her so she can see that you cannot get away with attempted murder. Shes 8, shes old enough to know better.

Child or family counseling/therapy. Please don't put her in foster care. That might make the situation a lot worse, particularly from the point of view of the 8 year old.
