My boyfriend is depressed. he is just now dealing with things that happened to him almost 2 years ago. He had a bad car wreck, got divorced, and his grandma died. i am curious about OTC medicine such as saint johns wort that r for depr. and if u have used them. also we cant afford alot. plus i need to know how to reassure him some things. he told me last night he is ****** up and is only ******* me up (i think because of everything he is feeling) he said he feels like he is going crazy. and he is affraid he is going to break my heart like he did his ex. i dont know what to say to those things. all i could tell him was it will be okay, we can get through this, im hear for you and hold him. i dont feel like that was enough. any suggestions on how to help him with out a pychiatrist (we cant afford it)...he has a hard time opening up. all suggestions welcome. if u have been depressed or know someone what helped u get through it?

This man needs professional help; you cannot do anything to help him.

Get him to a medical doctor and therapist--there are mental health facilities in every county in the US, so this is not difficult.

More than medication, he may need 'talk therapy' to help him think better quality thoughts and pull up out of his misery.

Good luck!

When someone is depressed they often just need a person to be there to listen. Advice won't work because the depressed person already has an opinion and is feeling sorry for themselves. You can try ST. John's Wort. It will help a little, but not do the job for severe depression. It also doesn't work overnight. Your bf. will have to accept what has happened as a fact. Until he does, he will not feel better. I used to be very depressed but I realized that I had to make the change. Suggestions from others fell on deaf ears, because I didn't want to hear them. I wanted someone to feel sorry for me. As you should be empathetic, you should not be an enabler or be easily manipulated. I wish the two of you well.

The most you can do for him is to listen. When people go through hard times they really need to talk about it. have him call the hope-line. (go to http://www.hopeline.com/ for the number) They can sometimes get people free counseling. The more he talks the faster he will get over this. Now I have had depression issues, and I've taken St. Joans wort, and I didn't notice much of a difference. Maybe that's just me though, and i didn't take it for long, but it can't hurt to try. Give ginko biloba a try as well, to get him thinking straight. Hope this helps.

sorry for your bf's troubles. St Johns wort can help but it doesn't help everyone, not all suppliments are created equal. Different brand absorb differently and it takes awhile to build up a therpuetic level. One of the OTC products I've used is called "rescue remedy" its desinged for stress but has helped me when I'm feeling down and depressed. You can find it in most natural food stores under the name "bach's remedies" it comes in a small yellow bottle.

his depression appears to be situational and not clinical, so it is doubtful that medication will help. The St John's Wort won't hurt him, and it might help, so I would suggest trying it.
There is other forms of help available out there, contact me and I can tell you more.

Let him go. You do not need that emotional BS. You have probably depicted him as BOYfriend very well.

To much prosperity in the world to be drug down by BS!!!!!!!
