It helps them as they age but not an immediate change.

The reason it calms males down is it removes all that testosterone that can lead to hyperactivity, aggressiveness, and wandering. Female hormones don't affect a dog that way, so spaying typically has no effect on the temperament or activity level of the dog. However, fixing your pet is ALWAYS a good idea if you are not a professional breeder.

There seems to be a lot of confusion around on the affect of neutering on behaviour.
Neutering removes the hormones responsible for sexual behaviour i.e. trying to find a mate. It does not affect behaviour in general. Male dogs will probably stop humping everything, male cats will stop roaming, and of course female cats and dogs will not go into heat anymore.
The primary reason to neuter is to protect the animal's future health. It stops many forms of cancer such as testicular, prostate, ovarian and mammary from developing. It also prevents females from developing the potentially fatal condition pyometra.
Do have your dog spayed, but don't expect her to be any less hyper if she is a hyper dog. Neutering has more of a behavioural effect on adult male dogs, but even with them they may be no difference in general personality.

This is mostly a myth. Any bad behavior learned prior to surgical alteration will only be eliminated/controlled through training. However, your dogs hormones will settle, and she wont be so emotional as she wont "cycle" anymore. Spaying will also stop an unwanted pregnacy from happening, and many reproductive diseases that can cause her extreme pain, and possibly a shorter life. Surgica;l alteration is almost ALWAYS the best choice. Good Luck!

Somewhat true...she will calm down a bit but age is really what makes a dog calm down.

it is sugested, but it isnt always true, it depends on the breed. And it isnt so much that they calm down, its that they tend to be less protective.
But be careful.
Before you take her in to get spayed, get a test to make sure her blood flow is normal. My mom took her dog in to be spayed, and she ending up spending 3000 extra because of Hemophilia. Which is when the blood doesnt clot properly and they bleed for a long time.

It's not totally true for males, either. If you want a dog to calm down, you need to train them.

I had my dog spayed at 6 months old and if it was suposed to calm her down then I wouldn't want to see her if she wasn't cause she is super hyper.. I dont think it calms them down much but they are suposed to calm down with age.

Spay her in any case, she's a mixed breed without papers, and is not of showing high quality. it would want to help, yet this appears like it will desire a diverse proffesional opinion. Does she have something like fleas, perchance?
