of course it isn't a sin to befriend Atheists. Catholics are taught to bring the mercy, love, and light of Christ to all of God's children. Yes, even atheists are God's children.

No, it's not a sin for a Catholic to befriend an atheist.

It may very well be through such a friendship that the atheist finds God.

It is not a sin to befriend an atheist. But be wary that your friend's thinking and opinions not influence your Catholic faith. Rather it should be the other way round. Try to win your friend to the Catholic faith.

No, it's not. The only think you have to be careful of is to not let atheistic falsehoods influence you away from your faith. The same applies if your friend was a Muslim or Buddhist.

Everyone is a child of God, and must be loved and respected equally as such. We simply must protect the Catholic faith and truth of God we have been given, careful not to let it be taken away, even by our closest friends. Our faith is more valuable than anyone on this planet.

God bless.

Pastor Billy says: no, but if the atheist friend becomes a bad influence and attempts to sway the believing Catholic from their faith the relationship can become quite damaging. I'd say under all circumstance it is important for the Catholic to know their faith and relationships with non-Catholics would rarely lead to temptations, misunderstandings and doubt that could lead one into heresy.

First and formost Catholics are taught "be not afraid"

Not at all. I'm a Catholic, and have many atheist friends. I don't use people's religion, or lack of it, as a qualification for friendship. I've never demanded that my friends believe exactly as I do.

It is in your best interest to befriend an atheist. We are truly the cream of the crop.

No. I have plenty of friends who are atheists or agnostics. To befriend someone is an act of love, which is one of the things we're SUPPOSED to do.

All I have to say is someone is converting someone. if you are not changing her views in God than she must be changing yours. All i can say is listen to her logic and give her yours, but don't beat it in her, and don't let that always be the topic of your conversation. Also make sure your not stepping outside your character to befriend them.

No.

It would be a sin to hate Atheists or anyone else.

Jesus commands us to, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

When asked, "Who is our neighbor?" Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan which teaches us that everyone is our neighbor.

With love in Christ.
