I see that you have received many good answers. Any book will do, really. It's what you do with what you learn from books that matters. Paganism is about doing things your way. It's a tailor made religion. Get the basics and then put your own personal mark on what you have learned. Change the parts you don't like. You can't do anything "the wrong way" here. It's really a quite lovely system. Each to their own way. Good luck! And Blessed be!

I'd suggest starting at the source: Gerald Gardner. He's the founder of Wicca, so it would be a good idea to read his books. However, he wasn't exactly forthcoming when it came to the history of Wicca, so I'd suggest that you also read Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton. For practicing Wicca, I would suggest The Craft by Dorothy Morrison, The Spiral Dance, by Starhawk, and Witch Crafting by Phyllis Curott.
I've heard that A Witch's Bible by Janet and Stewart Farrar (NOT the Frosts) and Raymond Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft are also good, although I've not read them.
Here is an excellent list of recommended books (as well as some books to avoid): http://wicca.timerift.net/books.shtml

There are many good books. One thing though... the books I like others may not, books others like I may not.
I like Scott Cunningham, and Rae Beth. That's just two.
Oh yeah Bonewits! LOL He has a great sense of humor too. I like his writing. Buckland is good, and Gardner... All my books are packed up since I moved or I'd give you some more. So far though you've been given some good suggestions.

Issac Bonewits, "Essential Witchcraft"
Starhawk, "Spiral Dance"
There are quite a few, but I generally stay away from anything published by Llwellyn. They tend towards the less scholarly and the just silly.

I like Scott Cunningham's books for someone just trying to learn about it, and also because his books are geared to the solitary practicioner...

well that depends on what you're looking for, but i would say to stay away from Raven Silverwolf - she's not a good representation of real literature
