An Emperor of China asked Bodhidharma "what merit have I earned by building all the Buddhist monasteries I have built" Bodhidharma replied "no merit". He then asked about the truth, Bodhidharma replied "no truth, only emptiness". Now the Emperor is very confused he had heard this Bodhidharma was supposed to be a great teacher of truth asked "well, who is it that stands before me" Bodhidharma replied "I do not know". To see the truth in these statements is to know the truth of karma. ~ : )
